ACTHA is hosting a ride on June 13 in EVERY STATE in the U.S. to achieve a new World Record!! Join the ride nearest you! It's easy, it's a great organization, and a great idea!!!

I'll be at the ride in Utah, judging. I am pre-riding it this Saturday. Wouldn't it be COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL to post pictures from EVERY State??
Get with the program! Get in the saddle. _________________ Carol Nudell

I am riding in it in Indiana. As far as pictures, if someone else is taking them I will try to get some, but I have a feeling I will have my hands full. This is our first time.

I believe my sister and I are going to go to the North Carolina one!! This is going to be fun! We will take lots of pictures!!
Who else is planning on going??
Carol ... Do you think this could be listed under the horse general chat so it is more exposed? There are so many people on this forum from different states. _________________ Proud Charter Member of the "Bad Apple Society"!! YEA!

I wanted to make sure that EVERYONE knows that ACTHA has a rule, that if you ride in a shanked bit you MUST use only ONE hand on the reins at all judged obstacles!!!! I wrote for clarification on it, and this is a hard/fast rule. You can use two hands between obstacles or ride in a snaffle or jaquima with two hands.
Didn't want anyone surprised by the rule.
Go forth and CONQUER! Paso Finos rule! _________________ Carol Nudell

I'll be at the one in Missouri! I wasn't going to go because I didn't have a saddle, but I got that treeless for a great price, and can't wait to give it a go! As you mentioned before, Carol, there will be a lot of horses, and not everyone will be a competent rider on a well trained horse. This is not a good idea for green horses or green riders. I can see it going south, especially if those human's competitive nature comes out. Stay safe, and remember this is for fun! _________________ "It was once said I should clear my head for one cannot ride a Thoroughbred. Hot they are. And too fast they be. Forever on the fly. They do have a Novice or Green horse category. This is an organized ride, you ride with friends or Buddy's and can wait for each other at obstacles. It's very casual compared to CTRs and much more organized then a large group trail ride. There are rules, safety riders, and officials to make sure everyone obeys the rules. _________________ Carol Nudell

My friends that have done both NATRC and ACTHA rides they say that ACTHA rides are very similar to NATRC rides just shorter. NATRC rides in my region (region 5) are very laid back but I can't speak for other regions. A lot of the rules for ACTHA came from organizations like NATRC but in some cases the ACTHA rules are more strict (the one hand shank thing) and some cases less strict (don't require all horses to be stabled in like conditions). _________________ Alayna

I just did a camping weekend, went down on Friday night, rode into the forest on Saturday on a new trail, our Back Country Horseman group put up a hitching rail and mounting block on the new trail. Then we rode back to camp. It was VERY hot and humid, Doc was pouring sweat when we got back, poor guy. Also he is barefoot and we had to go a ways on a gravel road, he went very slow. I am going to get him some boots before next weekend. He was a very good boy tied to the cross ties while we worked. Had never tied him like that before. He seems to really want to lead so after the work session I got in the lead, the others were going really slow and he did not want to lead any longer. He is still a little unsure of things. I came home this morning. I am tired and sore. This was sort of a practice run for next weekend since we have only been out one other weekend and that was last September. So, I need to work out these sore muscles before then. Doc fell in love with a mare that was stalled next to him, he is so fickle, next weekend it will be someone else, just like a man. Also when I say I was with a work party, I didn't do much work. When it was my turn with the post hole digger they saw that I get about a tablespoon of dirt, so they shoved me aside and took over. I pretended to be supervising. _________________ Maggie |
