When the chiro came out to work on my horses, Eclipse was down right fussy about her rear end. Didn't want Tammy near it, and this was the case last time, only she wasn't quite so violent. Tammy pondered this quite a lot, and thinks this isn't Eclipse's back, but may have something to do with an ovarian tumor? Eclpse's behavior is changing, and she's getting a lot more stallion-like. Yep, got a cresty neck, which is another symptom of an ovarian tumor. I'm going to schedule her an appointment at K State for an ultrasound, and see if we see anything.

Make sure you plan it between heat cycles or they can't tell a cyst from a follicle. I'd also plan on removing the cyst right then if she has one. It's an arthroscopic surgery and costs about $300 depending on the hospital, but since you'll have her there and probably sedated anyway, that is part of the cost. It's worth it. I had a friend who had to spay her mare, cost about $600.

They say Chasteberry Juice helps (Evitex) but I tried it and noticed no improvement.

I'm prepared for the 600.00 one, but hoping for the 300.00 one. I'm taking her to K State, and they have state of the art equipment. I'll be sure to tell them to schedule time in case she needs tumor removed, if they find one. She's pretty smptomatic for this. It will be interesting to see if her horsenality changes.

When will you be taking her? You certianly don't hope for a tumor, but if they find one at least you will know the cause of her behavior changes.

It frustrates me with doctors and vets, treating symptoms and never knowing what the heck the problem is. If they can diagnos this, and treat her, I'd be pretty happy. No, I don't hope for a tumor, but you are right, I'd like her to find some relief. I keep imagining the horse she is if only she wasn't so pissed off all the time.

Deb, I really suspect that her sacrum is out of balance. And one of her TMJ's.
That lump on her side is probably from where she was kicked some time ago. A kick strong enough to break a rib probably torqued her enough, if she held her footing, to misalign her sacrum. Balancing her sacrum may not hold without her TMJ being balanced too.

Of course, this is all based on my opinion. If she were mine, I'd be first considering non-invasive and less expensive solutions that didn't involve moving her from home (and herd) and surgery.

If you wish, I can certainly attempt to realign her. My recommendation is that we work together simultaneously and send her the Reiki energy she needs to heal herself. I suppose it would take at least a couple of sessions. We can coordinate the timing of the sessions. All I need to work with is a very recent photo of her in sharp focus showing her eye.

Regarding mares that get obstreperous such as Eclipse is getting now. I have found mares WANT to have a bit of sex! It settles them down a lot. I used to have a barren mare & she swapped herself between my 2 stallions & never got enough & the other mares were always ogling over the fence but since they were fertile they couldn’t partake & enjoy! Might pay to find her a rig for a one night stand! Remember the disease called Hysteria??

thought I got back to ya'll...they did an ultrasound and physical exam and found nothing. They had a specialist there and she took a look, just in case the doctor wasn't able to find it. Nada. We are going to continue with body work, t touch, reiki, and see if we can't help her. She was pretty stressed, so it helped our relationship with me being there for her. I never left her side. I had them sedate her for the exam. I didn't want her to be afraid. She seemed to be fine with the exam, and was very happy to go home. We are closer because of the experience. We ruled out a tumor, and now I just need to try and figure out what IT is.
