Today Jodi, Kristy and I went to Tractor Supply and asked if they had some Empower (Boost) in the back since it wasn't out on display. We were told they had 4 bags in the back but they weren't allowed to sell them because they were suddenly pulled from the market. I'm wondering why in the world this would happen and I'm hoping nothing harmful was in it because my baby boy Magic was on it   this is starting to worry me

I am not sure what is in that product, but I know a bunch of alfalfa products were recently recalled due to salmonella.   I thought it was in the Texas area and deep south.

I would definitely call the manufacturer once their offices are open and find out.

Below is what I found on The Chronicle of the Horse forum about Empower.

Hello everyone! My name is Gina and I work for Nutrena. I came across this post and thought I would offer some help. A few lots of Empower Boost were withdrawn from the market recently. We are working as fast as we can to get product back on store shelves for you – hopefully within the next week.

I would like to note that this was not a recall, it’s simply a product withdrawal. A recall typically occurs when a product could cause adverse health effects, while a withdrawal typically occurs when a product doesn’t meet FDA regulations, but there is no meaningful threat to the safety of animals or consumers.

We did discover a problem with our testing procedure for aflatoxin in our LeCompte LA facility. We reported the problem to the US Food and Drug Administration, fixed the problem, and decided to voluntarily withdraw the product from the market because it did not meet our quality standards. The level of aflatoxin in the finished product was above our standards, but not at a level that would be harmful to horses. We have no reason to believe the product would be harmful.

I apologize for the shortage in supply. Our plants are working overtime to get Empower Boost back on the shelves. Please let me know if you have questions. You can contact me here, or by e-mail nutrenaworld@nutrenaworld.com. Thank you!
