I thought I'd start a sticky thread on this subject, since these causes have a tendency to get lost on the forum as they drift down the forum.
We live in a very troubled economy right now...not just in the U.S., but in the world. We are all fortunate enough to have horses, and some are fortunate enough not to spend ALL our income on them.
Since both horses and people get into straights, I thought I'd put one place that won't get lost that people can enter requests for financial help - and it doesn't have to be for you, it can be for others, for rescues, for emergencies, for sudden vet bills.
In doing this, I'd also request that you EDIT your post once you have reached your financial goal, so people who are in the giving mood can give to someone else then.
A friend who runs a rescue for New Foundlands and other big breed dogs has this saying...and I don't think she'd mine me borrowing it...
You may not save the world by rescuing an animal, but you certainly change the world for that one animal. _________________ Carol Nudell

I'm going to start this off with a request to help an IATH friend, who also used to be a Savvy Club friend. I am not using her name to protect her identity. She can come on and say something if she wants.
Due to the economy they were forced to give up their horses. Her husband has been out of work for 2 years (building industry) and she recently lost her computer software job. It was costing them $500/month to board the horses in Arizona, where hay is $11/bale right now. I connected her with New Beginnings Paso Fino Horse rescue (yes, one of the horses is a Paso) and my good friends there took the horses in. Glenn and Ingrid are who I go help each year playing soccer to help the rescue at the Arizona Horse Festival.
Anyway, these horses are not up for adoption, but are in a caretaker status until the couple can get back on their feet.
Please help donate to their care here. There is a comment section in the donations, and you can donate to "Spice and Billy G" or just donate to the rescue itself. With hay at $11/bale, it isn't easy to feed 15 horses.

Deb (Bit) is rescuing a TB race horse and needs help bailing him out of jail, paying for a month's feed so he can be hauled from Washington to Kansas. The whole story and contact/donation information is here:

ElaineW's brother was a self-employed commercial fisherman. A few weeks ago he got into downed electrical lines while fishing in a flooded area. He lost his right hand and several fingers on his left hand and nearly lost his life.
Elaine has set up an account to help the family out (his wife in pregnant). If you can spare anything, here is Elaine's story and contact information. She has a Paypal account.

I love that Carol! It can be overwhelming to view an entire industry or situation and not know how to proceed; if everyone just responds in a way that speaks to them, the world becomes a different place Great idea to make a permanent place for these requests......... you have made the forum a better place _________________ Nancy

We are good to go with Cusack, with over 3000.00 nz raised, he has more than enough for a good start here in Kansas. Never could have pulled this off without everyone's help. Thank you and God bless you all!
If you had intended to help, there are horses and people in above posts that could use your help. I love that quote... It is easy to get overwelmed by all the stuff that needs fixing but we tend to forget that fixing it starts by small things like this thread!
Thanks again Carol. _________________ Life is for the living; life the life you love and love the life you live. |

Yes, I see the address in my purse. I get busy doing things and overlook it. One day, I will sit down and actually write a check. Things have been so hectic and tight , but at the same time, it is something I, personally, want to do.
Thanks for thumping me in the head with the sticky! _________________ A Good Apple Pie. II Corinthians 4:16-18 |

I know Elaine has a hard time asking you all to help. Luckily, I don't.
Eddy has now lost both hands and forearms. They really need our help.

And on another front, my pet charity - Best Friends Animal Shelter - is a good place to park your year end charitable donations if you feel called to do so! _________________ Erin

Bringing this back to the top because I've been reading stories about people paying off other KMart customers' layaways. It's really great hearing what others are doing.
I was thinking about going to KMart or WalMart and offering to pay off someone's layaway but then I decided I'd rather contribute to people I "know". So I was thinking about our group here and wanting to make sure that everyone here has Christmas.
I know some are embarrassed to come forward and ask for help. I am one of those people who doesn't ask for help. But it bothers me to think of children not having presents under the tree or families not having hay for their horses or chow for their dogs. (Notice I'm not so concerned about cats ! )
If anyone here needs help for Christmas and you feel comfortable, post it so we can help. _________________ Erin
