Hi. I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Melissa. We (my husband and I) are located in a tiny town in the Adirondack Mtns.

I currently have three horses-two older TWHs geldings and a young Morgan/Canadian cross gelding. I've been involved with Parelli and other NH folks since 2001.

Thanks for the welcome. Here's a link to see the boys. Hopefully, this works.

Thanks Becky.

We like to trail ride. Besides our trails, we're fortunate to have access to over 100 acres of logging trails behind our land. A good situation except during hunting season.

If you're interested, here's my story. I bought Brody back in 2001,while I was still in the Navy (Jacksonville, FL). I knew nothing about gaited horses. I bought him because I felt he needed rescuing. I was a green owner and he was an equally green horse. He bucked, pulled back when tied, and was very spooky in new situations. During one ride, I totally missed his signs and was bucked off-flew over his head and into a tree. Luckly, I was wearing a helmet. I only suffered a torn ligment in my wrist. It was shortly after that little accident that I sought out more training/information. I found Parelli. We actually got to see quite a bit of him since he was doing a lot of shows in the area.

About a year later, I bought Harley for my husband, Matt, to ride. I thought I knew more buying a horse the second time around. Nope. I did not. Harley was a mess, both emotionally and physically. He was all go and no whoa. Not a good horse for a beginner rider.

Fast forward to 2005. After we were both out the military, we were able to move back to northern NY. I decided I should ride ultrasenitive Harley and Matt should ride Brody. I've continued learning NH and improving my communication skills with the boys. Brody has turned out to be solid trail mount. He doesn't mind heading out alone with me. Harley still has many thresholds. He's now 21 yo and is showing some signs of arthritis. Maybe  time to add one more horse.

After A LOT of thought and many, many months of searching, I found Cooper. We've only had him for about a month but already he's proven he can be calm, cool and confident. He came with many hours of trail experience and knows how to drive, too.

If my horse purchases were like cars, Brody would be a Corvette, Harley  a Lamborghini and Cooper would be  the reliable pick-up truck I've been looking for. Now I just need to relearn how to post the trot.
