I've been thinking....it would be so cool to meet some of you in person.
Would there be any interest in trying to find a place w/in reasonable driving distance for most to meet and spend a few days camping with our horses? Somewhere where horses are allowed in the campground with some riding trails and play areas? I have no idea where this fantasy campground would be, but somewhere in MT, ID, WA, WY,Northern UT or NV???
Whatcha think, any interest? |

Sounds great! I love horse camping!! Have to have a truck and trailer first, though, and I'm working on that. I live in Oregon, so Washington or Idaho or even Nevada wouldn't be too far a reach. Once I'm mobile, that is! _________________ Alexandria & Dakota "Dun horse, magic horse, come when I call you!" Thundering hooves, flying mane, the dun horse came.

In WA, the Elbe trails are great! very well mantained by BCH, close to MT Rainer, and it's absolutely stunning. Plus it's got a great camping area with lots of picket lines & places to pen.
The Mt Adams/Pinchot Nat'l Forest area is very horse friendly too. _________________ Kelsey

My oldest sister lives in Challis, Idaho, but she is clueless about horses. We do have a member here in Nampa, who does a lot with her horses and knows the areas near Nampa. That is doable for me.
I can contact her. I believe just north of her is some incredible trail riding.
Or, I can contact Idaho's BCH and see what they recommend. Got to be something awesome in the Sawtooths.
--Nancy, I don't see any problems with people planning them in other areas of the country.
What I've found works best are campgrounds that allow horses. It's hard to plan menus for several days, but if each person plans ONE meal for everyone that works, or you can do Bring your own Meat (or veggie burger) and everyone bring a side dish.
We would want someone local who knows the trails. _________________ Carol Nudell

I would love to do something like this, but I'm strapped for cash right now, but maybe by the time this gets organized I could come.
I am currently in California, and my horse is in Idaho. I'll keep watching this thread, and hoping that our financial situation gets good enough in time that I can come join the fun.
Just before I left for California my brother and I went riding at Harriman State Park in Idaho, but there isn't enough trails there for more then a day of riding, and I believe that no camping is allowed there, but it was a lot of fun, I'm sure other state or national parks might have some riding areas also, and some I believe allow overnight camping. Just some more ideas. |

Yay!!! There is interest.
Kelsey...thanks for the suggestions...
PasoBaby_CarolU....Challis is where I took Bubba for training a couple years ago. It is certianly a beautiful part of the country. The gal who trained him, had trails right near her home. Unfortunately she has moved to Nevada and I've lost touch with her. Let us know if you can contact ID BCH, that would be great. Salmon is near there and it's beautiful.
So...I hate to say it but winter is on the way, so we would need to try to organize quickly and try to get someting done early Fall...or wait till Spring. Probably Spring? That'll give us some time to find a place and save up $...Dang I hate to wait so long...or maybe a few could do both? I can get some time off in September and sneak away. Crap! Septemeber is next month...where the heck did Summer go? |

So we will probably have to plan someting for Spring....up here actual spring could be anytime between March and July LOL...
Ok so anyway, I'll do a little research for some places and post a little later on, probably mid winter and maybe we can start planning. |

So I have a truck and trailer. And I'd love to come.
Only I suspect crossing the Atlantic might make it more of a journey than even *I'm* up for!!!

That's so kind of you,Carol. Much as I'd really love to, I suspect it's not going to happen though One trip to the USA for pony-related activities per year is about as much as my husband's going to be ok with _________________ www.suffolkhorsemanship.co.uk
