Today I went out to fly spray the 2 mares that like it.  Last time my focus was just on Mis, so it was Gunny or Harley's turn.  It's interesting.  Harley & Gunny are always silent.  Gunny always wants to be in my pocket.  Harley is protective of me & most of the time will take over if I don't remind her that I'm herd boss when I'm among them.  She'll try to drive off the others or she'll direct them.  Today was different.

I went out with a halter & line, the fly spray, & a dressage whip (which I've found to be handy for annoying flies.  I let them know right off I wasn't moving so good so no shenanigans!    I got 3 sets of eyes & alert ears & good attention.  I smiled & went to what I was after.  The flies were really sticky as we'd had bad storms in the morning, then the sun came out & then storms were rolling in again.  Ick!  I was getting bitten on the legs & arms just like them.

I was really pleased when Harley seemed to want something.  With Mis there's long sense been a connection, such as something going wrong & being awaken out of a sound sleep by her.  Never with Harley or Gunny but that changed today.  They permitted Mis to stay in the pen with us.  Harley seemed to need a little something today so after I sprayed & let it dry & then brushed... I got quite a kick out of her insistence that I brush her face.  I backed up telling her, "I don't understand... keep trying & I'll figure it out"  sure enough she loved having the bristles around her mouth & her muzzle.  It was hilarious as she didn't give up.  I think normally she would have just walked off.  I groomed her without a halter or line on.  It was a really great day & I feel like the door to Harley opened today

I love it!

I think it's so easy for some to get focused on the big picture that they forget it's the little things that matter. To me, it's figuring out all those little things that IS the big picture.

Bet Harley is feeling just as moved as you are today.

Oh, got all excited.  Ok, so we only did body work on Gunner the other day, right?  Carol did a lot of t touch on Gunner's muzzle, chin, right by his mouth and even inside.  It relaxed him like crazy.  She used a very loose fist, called it racoon touches on the outside.  She said the back of the hand feels different to the horse than the pads of your fingers.

That's wonderful that you had their attention like that & they WANTED you there.

Does the fly spray work straight away so they all of a sudden realize the flies are gone? The stuff I use is like that so my horses got the connection pretty quickly.
