Okay, guys......this was THE BEST CLINIC EVER. Kathleen is awesome. I'm tired and will post more later, but here's a report from one of the participants:
| Quote: | I just returned from riding in Kathleen Sullivan's horsemanship clinic.
The first two days were to be spent with our regular riding horse and
the third day was meant to be with our green horses but Kathleen didn't
mind if we brought out the other horse for some ground work and that I
did. This was my first time in years to bring two horses and boy did it
ever show the holes in my relationship with my very herd anxious
gelding, Comet. He was pretty much a basket case whenever I separated
him from his new found love, Katie. So for me this was a good
opportunity to work through some of those issues.
Kathleen rides with Brannaman, mostly, but has learned from some of the
greats in the natural horsemanship world, most notably, Ray Hunt. I
felt honored to be learning from her. She taught us things that may not
have seemed new or much different from Parelli but as we applied them
they are so much different. What struck me like lightening was how
everything she taught had a very definite and important connection to
everything else and that it all worked toward the finished bridle
horse. All I can say is my eyes were opened very wide this week.
On the third day Katie got some one on one time with Kathleen. This was
her second saddling and, unlike the first time, it resulted in a short
bucking fit when she was turned loose in the round pen. I was surprised
but Kathleen was not. Katie is 8 yrs old and is an unbroke
broodmare/pasture ornament owned by a friend. She has a great deal of
tension and inflexibility; not unusual for a horse her age who has never
been worked with but I have hope that she'll overcome the obstacles of
her life of leisure. Kathleen spent an hour flagging and doing rope work
with her to help her through some of the anxiety she's holding bottled
up inside. I have some direction and tools to use to continue her
training. I think Kathleen gave her at least a month's worth in the time
she spent with Katie.
Kathleen Sullivan has a dedicated student in me and I look forward to
her next visit.
