I did a Ttouch workshop/course about 6-7 years ago. To be honest at the time, my horse didn't like it, he was very claustraphobic (sp?) at the time and couldn't handle the teacher and student or any two people hanging out around him. One was way too much.
So yes I know about it and studied it but can't tell you if it works or not. Now would be a better time to try it with my buddy...but I haven't.
I can see the reasoning behind it and it seems like it would work if you have a horse that would stand still. Then again I guess the working part might have to do with what you wanted to work on. _________________ Wanda

Many years ago I read the book. I liked what I read.Have used it but not consistently. I just googled Linda Tellington jones. saw a few you-tube postings and liked that, too! What I saw sure seems to relax the animal. Her website is interesting, too. _________________ beth |

| I tried it with my Morgan Dusty to no result. All I can say is that it didn't work for me. |

I love Linda-- she was an incredible person.
Loved her book. Used TTouches on many horses that did not get the results that were expected. However, I'm most likely doing it wrong. |

I had a TTouch demo done on me at Equitana 2008.
Didn't notice a difference. There are some vids on Youtube that show amazing results, i think it depends. |

There's an article on her in the TRail Rider mag with pics and demo. I might give it a try.
I found dramatic results with Jim Masterson's equine massage dvd. Easy to learn, hard to mess up, great demo's, and horses respond every time, every horse. Just think if someone were to offer you a massage every day, before and after work? _________________ "It was once said I should clear my head for one cannot ride a Thoroughbred. Hot they are. I have 2 of her books and have tried her methods on Lady. Either I can't do anything right (always a possibility) or she just wasn't impressed. I also find all the names (of the touches) are confusing too.
I found Jim Masterson much easier to understand and follow and Lady actually responded to that - nothing major but I did see some of the signs he talks about.

I use a little TTOUCH and TTEAM with my horses and I find it useful – but like everything else it depends on what you are looking to do and what areas you want to improve. I am self taught, so I am no expert – just books and DVDs and youtube. I take what makes sense to me and leave the rest. For me, TTEAM/TTOUCH is another way to deepen my connection with my horse. TTOUCH is not a massage technique, it’s a method to help your horse think and feel differently about its body in space. It’s more about intent, focus and connection than a physical release. It is based on the Feldenkrais method – all about “awareness through movement.” Sorry if I’m butchering the explanation, it’s hard for me to put it into words. This page is a good place to start reading http://www.ttouch.com/whyTTEAM.shtml I have found the TTEAM ground exercises to be most helpful for RBEs and LBEs. I adapt the equipment – no chain over the nose for me thank you. The labyrinth and pickup sticks really help my horses overcome right brain tendencies and get them to think and search for solutions instead of just barging through.
Linda Tellington Jones has developed TTOUCH/TTEAM over several decades and as you would expect, she has refined her techniques over time. Some of her early work is fascinating. She did a study of hundreds of horses and correlated facial structure and hair whorl patterns on the forehead with behavioral trait/personalities. I suspect that this work was an influencing factor in Parelli’s horsenality materials.
So Becca, to answer your question, it depends. If you are looking for a massage technique, then I agree with everyone else, Masterson’s the best. But if you are interested in learning new approaches to helping your horse build confidence then you should have a look at TTOUCH/TTEAM.
I recommend these books

Giddyupflix has the DVDs.
I’d be glad to pass on other links and resources if anyone is interested.

I've just gone back to it after an aborted start a while ago when too much was happening.
Am trying hard to give us 10 min at the end of each ride or session to do Ttouch over saddle and girthing area at least.
Boots seems to be starting to enjoy it and relax into it. _________________ Author of
