I need to get your attention on this with the economy being what it is, things have changed in the way the person is presenting themselves to you to buy your beloved horse...

Yes, it's very sad to think about. At one time I think people looked at kill buyers as being older men for some reason. People wouldn't expect it being kids that young, and for some reason, being a 15 year old girl makes it even more upsetting. It makes me wonder what kind of life those teens have led to be in such a dark place. _________________ Elise

You're right it is important.
Maybe you should re-title the post....
Horse KILLERS in disguise.
That last post on your link.....I agree with that person...WHY do people think it is a good idea to keep breeding, breeding, breeding......when there are so many horses needing homes. _________________ -Becky

We had a case last year in the Paso community. A woman had to sell all her horses immediately in a divorce settlement. She took them to a local auction and an Amish girl bought them all, saying she would take them all to PA and give them a nice home there. Well, one week later she was taking them to the slaughter auction in PA. The Paso community rallied and saved all the horses, but at great cost. The "sweet young Amish girl" made a killing. _________________ Carol Nudell

Carol,
I love to read Amish fiction and history...but, I went to the auction and there was Tom, the Belgian. I rode him in a regular halter and he did everything I asked and then, he single drove. He was only 12 years old. A beautiful roan Belgian gelding.
I asked if they'd sell him before the day the draft horses sold as I had to leave. He said, "no". I offered the price he wanted. It turned out, he was a no sell as people offered less.
I was unable to go back. I still hope to this day he got a good home. He was such a nice horse.
Yes, the thread could be killers in disguise.
I have been told since I have been trying to alert folks that it turns out this is nothing new...they are cons of all ages. Some of us are just now finding out about them....
Which brings me to the concern of my will, which is clear that, my horses are not to be sold to anyone. But, to be put down as I do not trust that other people would care for them. I do not want them going to auction.
I don't want my dogs going to the pound...
I have been responsible and not been breeding.
I do like some breeds and I don't want them never to breed, but be responsible. Be sure you have real buyers and people who really plan to care for them. Sensible folks.
Thanks...I know, I am on a soap box. _________________ A Good Apple Pie. II Corinthians 4:16-18 |

Thanks for posting the link.

Thanks Larry,
I don't want to be the one screaming ALERT!!!! But, I do want people to be aware of the con artist out there. I have three horses I have given to only one person.
Along trusted and loyal friend. He cares for them just as I would. I would not given him Belle 1, my arabian/saddlebred cross except for her skin issues.
He has a TWH, Flint's momma (Scarlet) . Why I was once Scarlet Belle, the two mares. Then, he had Speck, the first Arabian I gave him. Another mare. Speck has since passed, but he always took great care of them.
The agreement between us is if he ever has health or financial issues, I get them back. They are very spoiled and older now. But, it stills stands and we see each other every 3 weeks for a hair appt. He knows, I am serious if he can't afford them, I will come and get them.
We've been friends for 17 years now. He is a true buddy of mine.
But, I would never release a horse to someone I did not know. I just make the decision to put it down.
I saw a seller punch a horse after the potential buyer found out drugs were used on the horse. The drugs wore off and the horse became a different horse.
The seller sent the horse to slaughter. Like it was the horse's fault. So I could to be responsible, because I have seen somethings and been told some things.
I try to make sure I put things on a shelf , so that I can continue to do this and not let my emotions stop me from helping where I can.
Thanks again. _________________ A Good Apple Pie. II Corinthians 4:16-18 |
