This thread is a special place for the UK folks to hang out.
(Little known fact, my parents were stationed in England when I was conceived, and my sister was born in Middlesex. We always called her "Limy" because of it) _________________ Carol Nudell

Ha ha Limy!!
I like it!
I am in the UK, in devon...
Any other people out there from or in the UK?
Which means you are most likely soaked most of the time at the moment and wishing you had one dry corner of your field to use to actually do something with your horse... roll on June! |

| Hiya, i'm in Northants. Yes slipping over in the mud and dark on a daily basis. Del looks like he is wearing a mud pack on a daily basis as he has this habit of rubbing his head in it! Shortest day on the 21st and can't wait! |

Hi from North Yorkshire, awash with mud, guess I'll stop thinking of moving down south if you have it just as bad in Devon. When I pointed out to hubbie that we were only 3 weeks from the shortest day he said so in 6 weeks it will be as dark as it is now.

Hi I'm in Surrey near Farnham, but grew up in cornwall as well and still surf every year! It has just started to snow! Devon is way warmer but way wetter than here! _________________ [IMG]

I am actually directly between Brighton and Crawley, on the outskirts of Balcombe...
Now, I would like to ask your advice on something if I may;
At the beginning of this year I bought Merlin his first 'proper' saddle, a Thorowgood T6 dressage, and had it fitted by an apparently good fitter.
I haven't ridden Merlin much this year to his issues, but grooming him today I noticed white hairs mixed with the brown, in a patch the size of a handspan, just behind his left shoulder. There are a few white hairs on the right side too, but not nearly as many. They have obviously grown through with his winter coat.
I don't want to go back to the guy who supplied the saddle, as he was adamant the saddle fitted perfectly in the first place so I doubt he'll be of any use now, so I was wondering if you knew of anyone covering our area who really is a good fitter!
Any advice gratefully received _________________ Antonia, making my own way with:

Saddle is too tight and you may have a lateral twist in you or the horse, is he very slightly favouring one hind or the other, have a look at the joni bentley website for this - she teaches courses near you - find out how to see if he is favouring a leg. Ensure your hips are straight, this usually indicates that the saddle is tight, and the horse or rider are twisting slightly causing more pressure under one side.
Put the T6 out one width and pad underneath with poly pad or similar if you have it - or get a shimmed saddle pad - I have a great one. the T6 dressage is a good saddle, it may have fitted originally and your horse filled out into it. just check your balance from front to back, make sure your weight is level and you are not leaning forward or back. My L6 tends to look higher in front but drops slightly when I sit in it so it ends up level - so you have to do this by feel rather than looking at it to a point. A good way to check is put the wider saddle gullet on, then try it on the horse with nothing - put hands on front and back and rock the saddle, it will sink at the front - add pads until it does not sink at the front and looks level!
I am training with Lavinia Mitchell who is fab and ex balance, understands parelli etc she is sometimes in your area - about monthly, otherwise Louise Halson may travel your way. _________________ [IMG]

Thanks for that.
Merlin is slightly 'sided' - my EP (he's barefoot) has noticed he wears one hind foot more than the other, although that was most obvious before I was riding him - he's levelled out more since then, probably because we've been doing a bit of lateral work. He does tend to bulge his ribs to the left as well.
As far as my straightness goes, my EE teacher has noticed that I collapse slightly to the right if at all .... so I think the uneven saddle pressure is more him than me.
I will get the next gullet size up. I think I might try moving the girth leathers back too - I was using the front ring, believing that would keep the saddle from creeping forward, but it's probably adding to the constriction in front.
Thanks again.. _________________ Antonia, making my own way with:

Anyone looking for a mare to loan in cornwall? She is 7yo and 16hh. i dont know all the details on her yet but was started using parelli but has had bhs style life since. she sounds sensitive but sweet and jumps like a stag. I am awaiting more details and so thought I would see if anyone is looking as she looks nice to me!
