I know it happens, but?

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homep...to-pal.html?OTC-RSS&ATTR=News

We recently had a horse shot and killed in our area by some stupid idiot.  I hope they catch ...that person...

Sorry, but a grazing horse can not defend himself.

I am not anti-gun, because I , personally need the protein.  But, do not kill people's pets that  are grazing.

There.

The HSUS just seized 77 Paso Finos in Mississippi.   They belonged to an older couple who apparently had quite a bit of land and just let the horses run together and breed for years.   The old couple got to where they couldn't take care of them and the State of Mississippi and HSUS stepped in.

The horses are at a veterinary facility now and apparently aren't in too bad of shape, except for worming, vaccination and farrier work.

I will let everyone know when they become available for adoption.   As I understand it, they will go for the Vet's costs, which so far, is not too bad.

NetPosse.com News Brief TN: Horse Found With Skull Split By Ax

Dr. Dan Hitch, veterinarian who treated Fancy

Sheila Wilborn, Fancy's owner

ADAMS, Tenn. - A horse in Robertson County was treated for injuries it
received after someone hit the animal in the head with an ax.
Veterinarian Dan Hitch treated Fancy, the horse, when it was brought to
the Robertson County Animal Clinic Wednesday morning.
"It's unfortunate, " Hitch said. "It's an awful thing. No creature deserves
that kind of treatment."
Someone slammed the ax in the head, between its eyes.
Hitch worked quickly Wednesday to pull the tobacco ax free and sew up the
wound.
"It was a 1/4 to 1/2 inch into the skull itself," Hitch said.
The animal is expected to recover.
"They gave her stuff to make her sleep," said owner Sheila Wilborn.
Wilborn said she doesn't understand why someone did this to her animal.
"I mean someone came by with a tobacco hatchet and said let's kill a horse
today. This was planned," Wilborn said.
Sgt. Tom Ryan of the Robertson County Sheriff's Office said he is trying
to find out who attacked the horse.
"I've never seen anything like this," Ryan said.
Wilborn said she and her family would love to stay home and nurse Fancy
back to health, but they can't as long as the assailant is at large.
The Wilborns will keep Fancy at a boarding facility until authorities find
out who committed the crime.
If caught, the attacker could face felony cruelty charges.
The ax didn't damage the horse's brain. Hitch said she could have died if
the weapon hit a major nerve, which the ax just missed.
If anyone has information about this crime, they should call the Robertson
County Sheriff's Office at 384-7971.

NetPosse.com News Brief AL: Horse rape case goes to grand jury

This has nothing really to do with theft other than I am wondering how did
the man get to the mini horse? Was the owner home or away? If he had time
to do this, wouldn't he also have time to take the mini if he had wanted to
do so? I am trying to get the people who have their head in the sand to
think. If you think, then you may protect your horse and your farm and keep
them safe from harm. There are no guarantees but at least try to keep them
safe. Doing nothing may come back to haunt you one day. - Debi Metcalfe,

Horse rape case goes to grand jury

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - A Mobile County man accused of raping a miniature
horse went before a Mobile County judge Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
Through his attorney, Eric Easley waived his right to have a hearing and
the case was automatically forwarded to a grand jury for consideration.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 27-year-old for raping a
miniature horse in 2010. Investigators said they found his wallet near the
scene of the crime.
Easley was charged with animal cruelty and disabling livestock.
“The animal was evaluated and we found evidence of abuse," said Assistant
District Attorney Jennifer Wright.
In the Code of Alabama, cruelty to animals is considered a misdemeanor
while disabling livestock is a felony.
The owner of the horse, Pat Foster, said the nature of the crime concerns
her.
"It's sick and sad. The miniature horse doesn't weigh but 125 pounds. She
is very tiny. Two and a half feet tall," said Foster, who watched the
proceeding. "It's forcing brutality on something that doesn't deserve it."
But Easley's defense attorney, Bob Clark, said what prosecutors say what
happened doesn't make sense.
"Do you know a horse psychologist, psychiatrist? Do you know anyone who
communicates with a horse?" asked Clark.
Clark did tell the court Easley is getting counseling. He declined to give
details about that counseling and he would not say how it will affect the
outcome of the case.
The fact Easley is getting help is encouraging news for Foster.
"I want it to turn out good for him. I want him to learn from this so that
there will be no other errors are made along this line, whether it will be
a child, a woman, or another animal. So I would be thrilled if it has a
good outcome,"
