I know I haven't been here for a long time(divorce really sucks)but I am going to need some hoofy help.I will be posting some pics later today/tomorrow of my moms roommates TWH's hooves.

I noticed Sunday she is walking very weird so I lifted her LF foot and got the shock of my life! Her sole has this HUGE roll that sticks out about a 1/4" past the hoof wall. Most of you have most likely seen this b4 but I never have and now I feel INCREDIBLY sorry for this horse.I'm going to borrow a knife, nippers, and file from a friend so I can do SOMETHING to help this little mare. With your help maybe she can start walking normal.

ANYWAY.....just wanted to give you a heads up of what is to come Have a wonderful day!

Post a pic.  Sounds like no big deal.

Well the owner had the neighbor come over and look at her.Turns out she stepped on something and now has a hole in her sole. The owner is going to soak it for a few days.I won't make it back over there til Thursday but I do still plan on taking pics.I forgot my camera yesterday so I took some with my phone but they weren't worth a rats butt LOL.

Thanks Mike!!!!!!

Ok well we thought we had this problem fixed but it keeps returning. As posted b4 we thought there was some kind of abcess.Nothing has come out yet.As you can see we put a small slit in the toe to relieve pressure. Some liquid nasty came out for a day or two then stopped. On the right side at wall there is a lip or roll that keeps growing faster than any other part of hoof. The opening we made keeps getting grown shut.Thats why we thought it healed. Now from all the soaking it seems the sole is deteriorating. We are at a total loss on this hoof. Please give your thoughts.I can take more pics in the am if needed.

Well, you have a mess going on there for sure.  First and foremost is some pretty nasty infection.  CleanTrax would be my starting point, with another soak about a week later.  And possibly another a week or two after that.

Slivetrasol as a daily wash would be good also.

I really like this product it also will toughen the sole up a bit.

Another good recommendation would be Tomorrow Dry Cow.  It is a bovine mastitis treatment that does very well on hoof infections too.  Comes in a handy 12 pack of syringes that allow the product to be inserted in the central sulcus.

I cannot tell how the trim is from the pictures, and honestly, until the infection is gone, it doesn't really matter.

My guess is the abnormal growth is due to imbalance caused from the loss of stability due to the infection.

Get rid of the infection ASAP.  IMO, at this point, CleanTrax is a must.

BTW, what have you been soaking with?

Mike

We have been soaking in epsom salt and betadine mix twice daily.

Now with the cleantrax, soak monday then wait a week and soak again? Not daily?

We have been VERY fortunate with never having hoof problems but with one horse.

Thanks a bunch Mike!!!!

Hoping for this hoof to heal very soon.  Mike gave you very good advice.  We all have things that go bad some time or another.
