Hi all,

I have had a brief look around (a LOT of info to take in on here) and this forum looks to be VERY promising to helping me and my ponies on our way.

My name is Caz, I'm 25 years old and I've been interested in Natural Horsemanship for over 10 years, doing a mix of things with the most recent being parelli.

On to what everyone wants to know

I have 2 ponies - Tilly has been with me for 4 years and was backed using mainly join-up with parts of parelli.  She is an 8 year old highland who was VERY dominant when I first got her but has become my partner more throughout the years and is VERY confident.

Fidley is my new partner and has been with us for around 10 weeks.  She is a 3 year old New Forest.  She had had a head collar on when she came to me and slowly has let me go from tentatively touching her, to catching her, to the head collar going on/off, teaching her to lead and now we are proudly able to stand in a stable (as long as Tilly is close by).

Two very different ponies who offer me some challenges which I will accept and hopefully better myself as a horseman.

Tilly a couple of years ago

Tilly not long after I got her

Fidley the day she arrived with me

Something was hiding in the trees

Fidley now

Thanks for the replies.

Fidley's full name is Fidleywood Emocion - she was born on the New Forest and from research, there appears to be a part there called Wood Fidley.  She was very dark bay 10 weeks ago and is now bright bay as you can see.

Yes, I think we will have some journey and have already found that I have to take everything gently with her.  What a response from her, when I take my time.  Her previous owners mentioned that when they tried to force her into the trailer, she raised a hind leg in warning, so I think she would explode if she was forced. (Quite Rightly so).  I bought her as a companion for Tilly so she has all the time in the world to progress.

Tilly is telling me she's bored in the field as she keeps trying to open the gate so I think we need to play/ride more.

Is "ello!" the correct welcome?  Out here we say "Howdy!"

I dare say you have two very different ponies there and have done SO well with Tilly that Fidley (cute name, does that mean he fiddles with things?) will be a little easier.   He does sound to have nearly the opposite horsenality, so he will be a GREAT teaching tool.  I have a colt that came to me very much the same way, had never been caught unless he was trapped.   He's come a long way past that, but still only allows ME to catch him....and that is years later.

One word that really stands out with these guys is SOFT.   Do things softly and not too directly at first, and add directly and big as he progresses, but still keep them soft and your movements flowing and easy.

Good luck with him!

Now....er....um............where are the pictures?

Fidley sounds a lot like my Little Bit, and yes softly goes a long ways with her.  She loves a calm state of mind, and adores my lead mare, Eclipse.  Nothing much bothers Eclipse and that makes her like candy to Bit.  She's always searching for that safety.
Sure wish I was 25 again!  I'm thinking you will really be enjoying some wonderful things coming your way during your lifetime with horses.  Welcome to the forum!
