About the ads

This is a free forum and with it come ads.  So sorry...I wish I were made of money and I'd buy it, I think it's like $80/year to buy.

When you post, the last person on a thread will have an ad in their post UNTIL someone else posts.  Then your signature should join the rest of your post.
carefreegirl

maybe once our numbers get established you could divide the cost ~$80, by how many there are of us, and we could all put in that much, so if there are 80 of us on here it would be $1 each.

but then again the adds aren't that bad.
PasoBaby_CarolU

One of the things I've found is that they use Google and scan your board for key words.  As you notice, most of the ads are already about horse tack, equipment, feed, etc.

We'll only get sexy ads from the Adult Humor Forum....LOL

I'd be happy to throw in a few bucks!
Leah

I was on another forum that did this-there was actually a way for each member to pay into a money chest on the forum.

It worked out great!

At the rate people are joining it certainly won't be much! LOL
creekwood

LOL Leah your ad is about eating disorders
NCMtnGirl

I'll be happy to contribute!  Of course I'm so happy we're all here (and growing).. I could care less about the Ads...!

Somebody do a follow-up post quick.. my ad is about ACNE..
jokersmama

I'd be happy to donate too, I'll have about $20.00 extra a month just laying around pretty soon...

The ads are funny though and sometimes even helpful
learningthedance

I don't see any adds?

I wonder if Firefox blocks them??
ElaineC

Right now I have an add for a Parelli Westernsaettel with umlauts over letters     Not quite as entertaining as yesterdays Chronic Bedwetter ads

Paypal donations rock, peeps chip in a couple bucks, problem solved.  Account runs out, ads come back.  Easy peasy
babs

I'll pony up a few bucks for it.
Gismo

So getting down to it ..... How much do we need , say each from the #3 person to sign up to #13 or #23, Next time the second set of 10 or 20 get the privilege of paying.
I dont think Carol should pay, do you ? ?
Shut up Carol , its not your call.....
learningthedance

Is anyone else here using firefox as their web browser??

I don't see ANY adds??
Niek

Firefox tends to block em .

Right now according to the host of these forums (myfastforum.org) there is no limit to how big we can grow. So i dont think there is a whole lot of a reason to change to a payed version especialy right now.

If carol would have to start paying im sure we are all willing to chip in .
But thats all up to Carol
NCMtnGirl

As for the ads, it wouldn't take but $80 Grant.  I believe that is what Carol said.  By this afternoon,
(YEAH this BABY is GROWIN'!!), it could be as simple as having 81 members, Carol excluded, paypal
$1 and poof they'd be gone!  Someone mentioned it would be easy to set something up using paypal.

But again, they don't bother me.  But if they bother others, I'm in for the donation!
learningthedance

Well, if anyone would like to download firefox, here is the link. It blocks all kinds of garbage and really is, in my opinion the safest most effective browser offered. I know some people are leary of change(haha) but you can't go wrong with this one.

Here is the link if you would like to check it out, and you can download right there.

http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/security/

It even has a built in spell check. I think that's one of my favorite parts.LOL

and...IT'S FREE!! :D

Like I say, I don't see any adds.
PasoBaby_CarolU

I use Firefox and I see ads.

But I do recommend it over IE, it is MUCH safer, faster, and the spell check is wonderful.

Good question.  I don't know if this is the newest version.  It frequently auto-updates.
Niek

Learningthedance.

You probably have an addon called addblock running

Oh.LOL Well, if people don't want to see the adds, why not add addblock??

That was a bit if a mouthful.
PasoBaby_CarolU

well, I found the page where we can pay for an ad-free forum.  I haven't heard anything about the ads lately.  I don't personally find them annoying, but others might.  Here is a page with the cost.

http://forum.myfreeforum.org/viewportal.php?component=shop

I also checked in with their admin and they are going to need a new server to keep speed up on all the forums.   They are currently asking for $10-$20 donations and the donation button is on the page above.   I am thinking of donating just because the site runs so fast and is so user-friendly.

So...what do people feel about the ads now?   Their spiders pretty well keep the ads on horse subjects.
Clarissa

I never click on the adds but the wording that does show sometimes makes OK reading. I don't find them obtrusive like I found the yahoo stuff which used to try to infiltrate my computer. I like that this site actually show ads from my country & from my state so that I might one day want to click on something that takes my attention.

The one thing to realize about the adds being from nearby where I live is that someone somewhere knows that my computer's individual numeric address is in a certain area of the state which is creepy really. There is no annonimity!!

I have been checking my security program's firewall for intrusion attemps since coming to this site & there doesn't seem to be any more than usual.

I have noticed this forum slowing a bit but it has grown exponentially & maybe the operators didn't factor that in so haven't allowed enough bandwidth.

Is it time to contribute to the forum for the yearly fee and expenses?
PasoBaby_CarolU

They have not contacted me yet, but yes, it is almost time.  I'm not sure what the exact cost will be since it is in pounds and I pay it in dollars.  It changes with the exchange rate.
PasoBaby_CarolU

We're paid up until May 10, 2011.   So we're GOLDEN for a bit.
thelmanelle

K.  We need too stay that way!
babs

I use IE and have not seen any ads.

NOoooo!!!   NOT THE ADS AGAIN!!!

NOW I SEE THE PROBLEM!!!     10TH MAY 2011

I'm away from home & having to use my old dialup account tonight. First thing after I waited ...... & waited....... & waited for the IATH home page to load was these bl**dy ads again    I immediately suspected my dialup server for placing them there.

I didn't get on the forum last night..too busy. So I didn't see the ads. Then tonight when I saw then I firstly thought it was the different server I was using, because I am still using my same laptop, therefore same browser, etc. I don't usually get ads.

It told me to log-in to not see the ads but after logging in there are still ads all over my screen slowing down my connection even more.   I could make a coffee while a page loads.

Do we have to pay up again to get rid of them?

There are 800 members. There should be enough others who would like to contribute $5 each this time surely?

PasoBaby_CarolU

I expected them to send a bill to continue ad-free, but NO, they sent me a notice last night that we had expired and a link to pay it again.  I'll pay it again, but am asking for help.  I've donated my "extra" money to Spice, BillyG and Elaine's brother.

Those who wish to help, can send $5 to my PayPal account:  pasobaby@yahoo.com

Thank you all in advance.

I'll get right onto it as soon as I get home tomorrow night.
PasoBaby_CarolU

It's a little cheaper this year...37.27 pounds = $62.71

Thank you..
thelmanelle

I will send a check for have no ads!  They make my computer go crazy.
PasoBaby_CarolU

Thank you both!  It will be appreciated.
PasoBaby_CarolU

It is that time of year again when we have to decide if we want to keep the forum ad-free or let it lapse.  It is due by May 12.

Last year a few people chipped in.  It makes it a lot easier if many do.  I have to pay the balance myself and am a little cash-shy with vet bills this spring.
thelmanelle

I did not send anything last year so I need to send a double donation this year.  I am late!
CoolsLadyInRed

Carol, I sent some to paypal:) Missed out last time. Thank you!!!
PasoBaby_CarolU

Thank you Becky and Beth and Sonya.

I think it behooves all of us to keep the site ad-free.   Last time it put Malware on my computer, cost me $99 to get it off.   I haven't had ANY Malware since.
becdubie

You are certianly welcome.

I really enjoy this forum and appreciate the time you put into keeping it up and wrangling the tough issues that come up, the least we can do is pitch in $5.00 a year to offset the cost to you.
thelmanelle

Ditto.  I sent a check Carol just as before a couple of years ago.  Let me know that it arrived!
