Advanced Protection Formula (APF) Discussion

I'd like to get some feedback on APF, APF Pro, APF Pets, and APF Pro Canine from those of you who have experience with these products.

Which APF did you use?

Specifically what did you use APF for?

What was the result?

Would you use it again?

Have you used it for yourself?

Where have you found it for the lowest price?

Any other comments you would like to make?

Thanks for answering!  We are considering using this product and would like to hear your experiences.

I bought it (Horse type) and tried it on Bien for two months.  I didn't notice any change in her.   Just for the record I also didn't have any luck with the J-herb or Metformin.

The only thing that has worked is Pergolide, even though her ACTH is normal.  Go figure.

I used APF Pro Canine for a 20 pound Cairn Terrier that had Pancreatitis so bad that it destroyed his immune system.  I purchased it directly from the company, spoke to a representative on the phone and she recommended the Pro formula.  I kept him on it for 3 bottles and never saw any improvement at all, so I never purchased the 4th bottle.  Don't know if I would use it again as I could not see that it did anything.  This is my only experience with APF.

I first used apf when Hawk, my then coming two year old, arab colt came down with strangles.  I had boarded him for a sleepover, while I took Bit to a weekend clinic.  I found out later that the barn was closed for most of the summer because of a strangles outbreak.  He was terribly sick, and apf was recommended by someone on sc forum.  I gave it to him in the morning, by the next morning he was symptom free, and trying to play dominate games.  The day before, this extreme lbe was hanging his head, eyes were vacant and he was not moving.  I kept him and Bitty on it, and their coats became healthy and glossy, and over all condition was pretty remarkable.  I started an ottb I was shipping from N. Carolina on it, two weeks before he was shipped.  I continued him on it until he shipped to his forever home in Colo.  I can't afford it right now, but it will be the first thing I purchase, when I can.  I'll try to post some before and after pics.  I also used it when I came down with mono this winter.  It made the difference between healing and not being able to get off the couch.  I was very ill.
I don't usually believe in something like this.  I tried it out of desperation with Hawk, but it sure has made my horses sleek and round.  I know a lot of people that swear by it.  Really great to give before any kind of stress potential situation for your horses.  I used the regular apf, although I know there is a pro version.  Hope this helps.
When Benen the ottb arrived, his coat felt like wire.  Not a winter coat, either.  Apf had him, black, sleek, silky, and much rounder by the time he shipped out.  I think it was a little over a month and 1/2.  I only gave one dropper a day.  That's Hawk, the sorrel in the first picture, about to see if this could possibly be a horse below him in the herd.  Not! Benen taught Hawk a lot about being polite last summer!  Bit's before and after pics, are just as dramatic.

A couple of years ago, my horse had a cough and runny eyes.  I tried APF and didn't see any results at first, but I apparently wasn't giving him enough.  It's expensive!  But, I started giving him the RECOMMENDED dosage and the whole thing cleared up.  It's the regular APF, not the "pro".  I thought I could take him off of it in the winter, but the whole thing started again when I stopped giving it to him.  I started buying the big bottles just for convenience.  I buy from Valley Vet.  But, I also keep the small bottle on hand because it has a dropper and the big bottle comes with a syringe, which would be ok if I weren't soaking the APF into a hay cube.  The syringe just squirts it AT the cube and ends up mostly on me.  If you are just putting it in feed (my horse gets no grain), then the syringe would be fine.

This is my experience!  As long as I have my sweet baby, I'll also have APF on hand.

I feed all 4 of my horses regular APF.  A dropperful 2/x day since 9/2005.  Two bottles shipped to me from Auburn Labs at the first of every month.

Prior to using APF, the vet suggested that my older Spotted Saddle Horse (now twenty-eight) was likely in the beginning stages of Cushings Disease.  He had skin problems, hives and rain rot, with a long, coarse coat.  Since APF (in his Winnie's cookies) he now sheds out sleek and shiny.

My TWH developed a bad cough when we fed hay.  Testing showed poor thyroid numbers.  Not quite insulin resistant.  No conclusion on what was making him cough.   Since starting APF, there's been no coughing.  At one time he was getting horrible scabs on the back of his hind legs.  We haven't had a reoccurrence in years.

Since APF made such a difference to the older two, I feed the younger two APF as well.  The old guys are pasture pets.  The others I trailer out often to trail ride.

I've taken APF myself a couple of times when I've felt tired and stressed out.  Added a dropperful to cranberry/grape juice.  I think it helped.
