Cadaver Hooves

Anyone know where I can get one???
Leah

I have asked before and it has been suggested I contact the local vet school.

You are in FLORIDA? IS that right?

Heck KC is not far from you then! He is in Ocala. Is there any way you could attend a workshop with KC? You trim dead hooves there and learn enough to make your head spin!

Contact your local renderer.  That's where we get them up here.  You can just go buy them I believe.

My wife became a Vet back inthe early 80's right there in Gainsville.  Could have a few extra hooves laying around.  Of course, they are probably disecting them, themselves.

The renderer sounds like a good place.

What is "the renderer"?

After your horse has passed into that pasture in the sky and is finally running free and happy, the renderer is the one that picks up the carcass and turns it into dog food.

Yes, and as Pete say's..."Never bury a hoof!!"

I have been looking too. Might have to call my local vet and see what he say's. It would be much easier if he could get them for me.

It's kind of a creepy thing, but I really want to see one up close and personal and get exploring around.

I would also like to know how they urethane(?) them to preserve them?? or dip them in acrylic or whatever it is? Anyone know??

If you buy a cadaver hoof, they are freeze dried. If you get from the renderer, you take them to the butcher at closing time, (so they only have to disinfect everything once), they can cut them in half for you.

They may be able to export a freeze dried one for you.
