Carolyn Resnick is starting up a new insiders circle club

If you want to do the water hole rituals, but feel you need more guidance, Carolyn is starting up a new class.  It's affordable, and Carolyn gives you individual guidance throughout.  When she felt I didn't understand something, she called me at home.  lol, we always talked for a couple of hours, and most of that was about horses...not class.  I think Carolyn and Dennis Reis are the only trainers I know that have a personal relationship with their students and actually talk to them.
I learned so much from taking this class.  Danced with all five of my horses the other night.  Yep, even Shaun, although very shy, participated.  Both Hawk and Gunner were dancing with me at liberty, one on each side.  It's been a dream of mine.  It's not hard, it's very possible, and this is a great way to get there.

I am alrmost done with reading Waterhole Rituals, which I found very enlightening and not at all what I expected.

I am interested in the class, but I work nights and odd days and don't have a very flexible schedule.

I worry about not being available for online activities or conference calls.

How was the class run, do you think its a easonable option for someone like me?

All the calls are recorded so you can listen later.  You'd be a good candidate for her, in the box class.  (it's cheaper) You can't participate in calls, but can listen, (they are recorded, so you can listen later) and have access to all videos and she will answer your questions on line.  What I noticed in the calls, we all had about the same questions.  So while I waited my turn to talk to her, someone else asked the question I had.  Chances are, whatever you want to ask, will be answered in a call.  You should be able to post using this link, let her know your situation, and see what she says.

Thanks for the support Hertha :-)  So much has evolved and coalesed in my philosophy that I'm truely excited to share!    ~ Cynthia

I'm finding the same with the DVDs I'm making.  It's quite a long process and when I get one finished I've learned more and I'm keen to make some more updated ones!

But I guess that's what keeps it all so interesting.

If you're still watching this, Cynthia, was wondering if you have had time to properly explore clicker training.  Have you read Karen Pryor's books?  I have incorporated it into natural horsemanship plus liberty work similar to yours.

The click/treat dynamic allows the horse to hone in on exactly what you want.  You teach new material in 'loops' consisting of CUE - BEHAVIOUR - CLICK/TREAT.  When the loop is 'clean' (contains no unwanted behaviour) you go on to teach more 'loops' and eventually you string the 'loops' together to get the more complex behaviours that you want.

Once the horse understands each set of behaviours, the click/treat is phased out - used occasionally or for a special effort of at the end of a series of 'loops'.

It's basically the 'release on the try' plus very targeted reward reinforcement.

From your first set of DVDs I noticed that your treats seem more connected to specific actions than I can see on C. Resnick's work.

While it wasn't highlighted in my prior video training modules,  those who are keen can see my use of cues, markers* and rewards in shaping behavior.  I moved to this marker-based positive reward system some time ago after realizing dominance-based techniques (such as those involving moving the horse through threat or predatory-like body language) simply didn't  foster the type of mutually enjoyable relationships I sought with my animals.

The inadequacy of these (dominance-based) techniques was increasingly evident in the more confident animal personalities (such as stallions), whereby a push in energy from me might on occasion lead to an escalation of energies with the animal  - something extremely unsafe for the D.I.Y. horse owner.  By eliminating the push through trial and error, replacing it instead with an invitation, mark of the desired behavior and positive reward, even the most challenging animals become enthusiastic and willing allies...and in shorter time than any other system of which I'm aware.

*For those just learning about this, a 'marker' is any consistently used sight, sound, smell, touch or taste.  The benefit is it is processed directly by the amigdula, rather than the more process-oriented (and time consuming) portions of the brain.  [Events processed in this way become permanent learning in as little as 1 event. ]  As I'm usually working with multiple animals at liberty all at the same time, I use a special 'cluck' I've developed that I use ONLY as a marker.

I'm looking forward to sharing this all in the release of my new training modules coming out soon!

This is a very important point.  Enjoyed your label of "DIY" horse owner.

But basically, that is everyone with a horse. That's why it is so important that the horse trainer is also the people trainer, so that the pair of them are trained together and have a hope of understanding each other, which is what Carolyn Resnick is doing so well.

Carolyn Resnick is starting up

I have Cynthia's 3 volume training set and it's just great. I have viewed it several times. I was always hoping  she would  come out with some new stuff and I'm so looking forward to seeing it and the new program she has to offer.  I've been able to do a lot of stuff with my horses  following these methods and  they really love it too!!!
