Here’s David Farmilo’s website which some here will find very interesting reading. He has quite a few recent articles that make interesting reading & are written for the layman to understand.

I found his article about short or long frogs interesting since Sonny’s have gone from medium in early 2009 to long in late 2010 & now becoming shorter again in mid 2011 & although I think I know why it’s happening it was interesting to read the article. I noted his reference to underrun heels in correlation to long frogs. My heart skipped a beat when I read how to fix short frogs because I did that on Sonny in mid 2009 using the measurement system & made him sore. Mmmm More reading required there me thinks. Lol

The article on creeping toes is also very interesting & has some good photos of just what he’s talking about.

I will have to go have a read. Just don't buy your nipper springs from him. LOL He charges $27.00.

and they certainly aren't a "New Product". You can pick them up for about $8.00. Mind you, I tried them and wasn't very impressed anyways.

I agree Elise. But as with many professionals if they find something that makes their life easier they try to sell it.

Personally I would rather teach the young foal/horse to be happy with picking up it's foot properly!

He also talks about training our horse to stand in cross ties to make the farrier's job easier which is a fair call. However if the horse & it's handler (& it's professional treatment provider) were 'properly' trained using NH techniques in the first place, cross ties wouldn't be necessary.

It's the same old story.

He lost me when he starts putting exact measurements to the hoof capsule. One can be in for a rude surprise if there are long term changes to P3.

When he figures out the long toe low heel syndrome is really just poor soft tissue conformation, he will be on to something...

David Farmilo is one of the most respected and educated farriers in Australia and dare I say would hold his own anywhere in the world. David's knowledge is not based on popular beliefs or assumptions, his knowledge is based on scientific and pathological research as well as years of experience. There are very few people that I would allow to do any work on my horses' feet but I would be only too happy for David to work on them, he takes into consideration the whole horse not just from the coronet band down. Whilst he may not be a NH practioner he has a more than acceptable approach to handling horses.
