Dog Communication

So since I've been back on the track to getting healthier, I've been "talking" to one of my dogs, Funky. Well I tell you what- the things I've been asking him to do to let me know that he hears me are either extremely coincidental, or he really does hear me. I have no idea how to communicate with animals and this is the last dog of our three that I would have expected to connect to. Just now I concentrated on having him come into another room and told him that if he were to come up to me and touch his paw to my raised hand, I would give him a treat. (In less words of course!) This is a VERY food driven dog, his ears shake when he's about to get fed because he gets SO excited. I am thrilled but don't want to OVER talk to him as I've heard once an animal proves that he hears you, they don't want to keep doing it, be treated like they are retarded. Pictures have been entering my mind lately and I seem to be feeling how HE is feeling.
Don't know if any of this is true, but thought this would be the place to share it.
SO cool!

Nevermind, I KNOW he can hear me

I know my dog Angel, my cat Sugar and my horses hear me. It's just something you know. No explanation. I hear them too. Some louder than others. The other animals either don't talk or I just don't hear them.

Like angels, it isn't that extraordinary tp talk to them, it can be quite extrodinary when they start talking to you.  In both ac and angels, it's simply a matter of listening.
Erin, I've heard that animals often communicate in pics.  Most of us humans are so dang chatty in our heads, we are lucky to hear much of anything.  Most animals don't bother unless it's very important, like trying to get the human to let them out to go potty.  Or let us know that dinner time was an hour ago, and where's the beef?  Once they know we are listening, you get communication, which is a two way thing.  Think about it, not very many humans have communicated with animals.  They have talked at them, tried to control them, but never take the time to listen.  When you ask another human a question, you pause, they think and then respond.  How often does a human allow a horse that same courtesy?
Let's take this a little further. Two hundred years ago a person of color was treated as property.  I have hope that in two hundred years, and hopefully it won't take us THAT long, the animals (and this planet) will be honored and treated with the same respect that we give one another.  sigh, which we still don't do, I guess.  I have a lot of hope for us.  Animals can teach us so much, if we just listen.  50 years ago, cell phones weren't even on the radar, and look at us now.  So in another 50, which is in a lot of your lifetimes, just think where we might be?  Can you see the headlines?  A german shepard by the name of Rex has just announced his bid for the presidency?  Polls indicate a 95 per cent approval rate.  Bet we wouldn't be too concerned about him having a few litters out there running around. Sheesh, probably some idiot would dig up something (pardon the pun), like hip dsyplasia or him biting someone when he was a pup.  lol, sorry!  I seem to be running with this!  Hey, make a great book huh?  Horse trailers with gas pedals, and tb's getting pulled over for speeding?  Arabians doing community service for excessive snakey necking?  Cats protesting substandard litter in public restrooms?

My mom is upset because Funky no longer sleeps with her. He spends almost all of his waking time with me, glued to my side and falling asleep on my chest. He used to bark and chase bigger dogs, he no longer does this if I ask him not to. He doesn't lick my face when I'm scratching his butt anymore and he is so willing to be with me. I've been shown a couple of pictures and one word. I was leaning in to kiss his face, which I know he doesn't like, and I saw the word DON'T just like that. In big capital letters. I pulled back and have not kissed him on the face since! It's so wonderful to connect with your animal on such a deep level! It feels like we dance together even when I'm just letting him out to potty.
I sure wouldn't mind a German Shepard for president

I wish I could learn how to listen good enought to hear my animals.  I just dont know how ...

Any tips or suggestions?

Well you've heard the saying "seeing is believing", right ?

Well, someone on here once said "believing is seeing" and that helped me see. Because I already believed

Ask.  Say it out loud, and then get quiet and listen.  May come right away, may come an hour later, the next day.  If your head is filled with your own voice, you won't hear them.  Let htem know you are listening, and ask them if they want to say anything, or tell them you love them and if they ever want to say anything, you are listening.  Relax, and listen.

I still am not great at hearing what my dog Funky has to say but his attitude towards me has completely changed. I find it helps if I close my eyes, empty my mind and say it in my head. Maybe this is why I'm not hearing a LOT of things, because I need to say it out loud.

Lets just say I'm a sceptical person.

So yesterday I stumbled onto this thread and thought "Yeah right". However when i got home, My 12yo staffy ran up to me with her usual chirpy greeting and we proceeded with a little bit of "rough & tumble".

Later on when she was lying quietly on her chair, I walked up to her, put my arms around her, and lay there - head to head.

In my head, I told her that I loved her, and that even though I couldnt' hear her, I'm sure she could hear me. And if she could, could she give me a kiss.

Bugger me. She lifted her head and gave me a great big wet sloppy kiss. Whilst she LOVES being petted, she doesn't often "offer" this kind of affection, so it really blew me away.

We sat there for a little longer, and I continued to tell her that I loved her (in my head) and let her know that my head was way to busy to hear her, but I knew she could hear me.

So later on last night - about midnight she barked at my door. I thought she wanted to be let out, so I got up all grumpy - knowing she didn't need me to let her out.

Soon as the door was open she was on my bed. Its rare that Bundy wants to sleep in my room. ESPECIALLY in the warmer weather (its just starting Autumn here and last night was a lovely temp) So I expected her to stay for 5 minutes and then decide to leave again.

She stayed the whole night. Even ended up sleeping up my end of the bed. (Her usual trick is to get under the covers and lie facing away as far down the bed as she can), But this time she was *with me*

How. Freaking. Interesting.

@thebundychick:
Cool stuff huh?
I was EXACTLY where you were about five years ago when my gf was telling me about the ghost in her house. She told me his name, what he used to do for a living and how he died. (His name is Hyrem and he was a miner in the field behind the house and he went into the mine and it collapsed on him. He used to drink Jack Daniels a lot during work and he was a Mormon so he was called a Jack Man) anyway! I didn't believe her for one bit that she knew these things and just rolled my eyes in my head and shook off what she had to say. It's incredible the way your eyes can be opened to different things in due time!

Your staffy sounds like a wonderful girl! It really is incredible how animals will choose to be near you in ways they don't usually desire. Like her licking your face and getting up into your bed in an unusual way. I wouldn't doubt it one bit if she chooses to sleep with you again tonight

So last night my dog Daisy opened up to me. I know because she has never looked at me, or acted the way she did last night. I KNOW she heard me. Question is: HOW do they understand us? All the animal communicators seem to say that they are shown pictures or objects from the animal, not words. We talk a LOT like Bit was saying-- so if they "talk" in pictures etc, how do we know that they UNDERSTAND what we are saying?
Yes_But_Neigh

Today I asked my dog Daisy what makes her sad and she gave me these answers:

I don't like it when you call me boring.

~We often call daisy boring. Out of all of the dogs she never runs or plays with the other dogs, she doesn't like to fetch, doesn't swim and generally just likes to lay down or sit by people when all of the other dogs are off playing on the trail/park. She'll often be seen sitting at the beach just letting the wind blow in her ears while the other dogs are running as fast as they can. This really resonated within me because it makes sense that it would hurt her feelings. I also thought about myself and how my feelings would be hurt if someone called ME boring. When I go to the beach I like to walk slowly and sometimes sit down for long periods of time to meditate. I don't like running and I generally don't go out to party/fraternize with others. I'm a homebody, and well- I would be sad if someone called me boring. How neat!

The second thing she said was that she would like to have a seat to herself in the car sometime.

I would have never thought of this without her telling us. We always call her a sensitive princess because she's always yelping at the smallest things but when I think about it, there are always one-two other dogs smooshed on the seat with her and she yelps because she is being stepped on. The other dogs have plenty of space in the car to go lay down somewhere else but they choose to be on the seats with the other dogs. I tried really hard today and yesterday to make sure she had her own seat. My little dog Funky tried to jump back into the seat with her several times.

Thirdly: Our dog Funky let us know that his favorite place to be was at the beach. Again, NOT something I would have guessed. Out of all of the trails we frequent, the beach would not be something I would have thought he would like the most. (This is how I know this stuff is real, everything *I* think they would like, turns out they tell me stuff that I wouldn't have guessed.) Funky, as some of you know, is a Chinese Crested so I wouldn't have thought he would like it at the beach since it tends to be cold there. So yesterday I packed up the dogs with my mom, made sure Daisy got her own seat and took Funky, along with the rest, to the beach. Everyone was really happy and as soon as Daisy got done trotting around I sat down on the sand and she came right over to sit next to me and she got that far off glaze in her eye when she meditates on paws.

Very cool adventure

YOU are a very "cool" person!  I wish I could do that; when I ask I don't get anything back from them.

You know I can't say I've ever had one talk in pictures.  I do have this silvery gray horse that shows up with a color prism.  I have a gray horse but the one I see is not Mis.  This horse is very distinctive & exotic looking.  A few times I get something similar to a conversation in my head but it's not like you & I speaking aloud.  Other times I will just know something without knowing how I know it.

How do they understand? I think it's simple.  They're meant to understand.  The animals walk with 2 feet in this world & 2 feet in a higher realm.  Personally I believe this is why a dog can see a ghost/spirit & not wig out.  What may scare a lot of people is of no consequence to them because it is NATURAL.  They understand things.. it's us people who are slow & try to complicate everything.

I posted recently an exercise that I actually use to teach people to go into the natural realm, to learn to follow a feel to an extreme degree involving no physical touch.  I'd start at home & maybe do this with people you know.  You put your back to all entrances to a room.  Make sure you can see no reflection & that you don't hear the person talking - so basically no cheating.  See if you can identify who came into the room (human or animal).

In the game of natural selection, most humans would be some critter's dinner because humansville doesn't open itself to listening to the things that make humans excellent predators.  But one side benefit of this is it teaches you how to quiet the mind.  I can be in my home, cooking dinner, talking with friends or whatever & suddenly its as if a brush something (in human terms like someone points to get your attention or like seeing someone come to full alert) don't have this much with humans... do have it with dogs.  When their awareness - which is that of a supreme natural being - shifts... I feel it in a way that is not training, it's not something hoakey, it's not a sound that makes me pay attention.  Same goes with the horses, I can often times avoid disasters because my 'follow the feel' my internal 'ears' pay attention differently because I try hard to hone it.  For those who struggle to hear the critters... you might try it... you might fall over from the results if you ever tap into it
