Dressage to propose rule allowing blood in competitionhttp://www.eurodressage.com/eques...10/13/dressage-become-blood-sport
You can see first the proposed rule which will allow blood during competition.
Later you can see the altered rule which another group of people is proposing to eliminate any horse who has bled at all. Please speak out so that we can make this better for the horse.

Hard to find the appropriate words to comment on this, except to say how appalling it is.

OMG!
My question to the people making this decision would be... Why on earth would you feeling that making a horse bleed is necessary for this competition?

The competitive horse world seems to become more and more revolting.
In this country we currently have jockeys going on strike because they are not allowed to thrash their horses during a race, now we have these disgusting people demanding they should be allowed to crank on their horses' mouths so hard they bleed.
And they will all probably win because in the end it all comes down to money.

Use to be you could even feed red colored treats, like apple wafers, because the color out of the mouth was reddish and you get in trouble for that coming from the mouth.
Naturally, my horse only liked the red treats, but I did not want to show. So we just had lessons for fun.
Rules are weird. One community is attacked and then, another is allowed to do this sort of thing?

It was pretty appauling to read that blood is ALREADY allowed at Jumping and Eventing competitions!
It seems to me that the best way to fix any of it is a letter campaign, followed by boycotts of any/all of the sponsors of these events. Money talks. Not that I've ever bought or owned a Rolex, I'm sure there are plenty of people who DO, who would be appalled.

"The competitive horse world seems to become more and more revolting."
Is it that, or is it that we become less and less tolerant of abuse? We are changing, evolving, growing. And we need to be vocal and vote with our wallets and speak with our letters and comments publicly! Be sure you sign the petition!! Post it on facebook etc!

It's on Facebook already.
I agree with you Erin, as we humans evolve to have more humanity, it includes toward the other species that share our planet with us. I think there is far LESS abuse then their used to be. It's just some die-hards want to justify why it's OK for them to abuse animals...to win!

Ya but post it on YOUR wall, etc.
Occupy Wall Street might be a mess...but at least people are speaking out against what they don't want and demanding change.

"This was shot at the IALHA Sat. p.m. When brought to the show manager's attention, she said she had been in touch with the club, but would let the horse continue under these conditions as it was a non regular class (exhibition). Perhaps this is not in the best interest of the horse. Let the IALHA (International Andalusian Lusitano Horse Association) what you think. The Haras Dos Cavaleiros is where the horse is trained, they have a website should you wish to express your opinion."
The owners response:
"Yesterday the the Extravaganza Show at Nationals, one of our horses sustained a small, superficial wound. The horse was shown with show spurs, as the European style and dress called for it, instead of working equitation spurs. As a result, the horse sustained a small 2mm superficial wound. As soon as we saw this, we publicly excused ourselves from the show and promptly inspected the horse.
There was some concern about the injury from our fellow horse lovers and we would like to assure everyone that we take all precautions and adhere to the highest safety standards. We do not, and will never, compromise the health of our horses.
The small, superficial wound has been inspected and treated as shown is this picture taken a day after the show.
Both the the rider and Haras Dos Cavaleiros apologize if this caused anyone concern and we invite everyone to visit our facilities and attend a training session to see that we adore and treasure our horses."

Agree with you, Erin.
I am constantly disgusted by the lack of humanity shown by those in 'power'.
