Fluga- an icelandic horseSo this summer we (me and my wife) was asked to help with the hooves of a little mare, Fluga an icelandic horse.
The owner didn't think the farrier was doing a good job ( go figure ) and we have been helping out with her sisters icelandic mare and fitted her with Renegades, so she wanted to try to go barefoot.
So we went over and found this...
(just putting up the front left) (sorry about the poor quality of these, bad camera)
These are from July 26th

Came back today, October 1st.
(I like to take pictures before the trim, so I don't get the benefits of rasping away previous mistakes, but can see the results of the previous trim. )
So this is before the third trim, which was today.

Any comments?

I'll comment...WOW!
Good job they look ten times better than before!
It amazes me that with all the information and studies available farriers are still doing that sort of thing to horses hooves.
How is she moving now? Much better I suspect...

She was sore when the shoes came off, and sore after the first trim. A bit sore after the second trim also, but today she was moving out quite nicely. She even trotted a bit across a gravel road, and that surprised me. I would have thought that would be months away.
