Fly Sheets

Have never purchased one; Thelmanelle suggested it and I've thought about gettin some.  I don't have any experience so who buys them and what do I need to know?
bit

Nancy I have two very nice ones.  Although they keep the bugs away, cut uv by 75%, and are supposed to be some of the coolest with lots of air flow, they are just too hot in the summer for horses to wear.  A blanket is a blanket.  I haven't used them for three years, only used them one spring.  Worked great until it started getting hot.

Are there sheets made specifically for riding?  Almost had a wreck today and need to do something.  She has a hard time, as I imagine all youngsters do, with too many stressors.  Flies, dogs, balance, unfamiliar territory, heat.  As you know........ 90 degrees at 9:00am.     I can't quit ridden her, my time is runnin out.  Once I go back to work, the concentrated and consistent training will stop; I'll become the dreaded weekend warrior!
thelmanelle

I have seen a riding fly sheet at our barn.  I will ask about it.  I do use a riding fly mask over the face to protect the eyes and ears.

Giz talks about the mint mouth wash and sticky is better than irritated.  You could put a bag on your saddle with a spray bottle for the occasional attack after the initial spray down?

Ideas?

OMG Sherry, that is fabulous....the bug armor!  I have a riding mask but the armor YES to that.  Really all I need is the back sheet or BUTT MASK

I've been sittin around all day thinkin about how I could take apart some of the old fly masks and use the mesh to make a "butt mask"  Ask and it is Given as Erin says!

A butt mask ???
jackspark

Ha Ha I found JUST the Butt half at Equestrian Collections  $34.95  Trying to find a promo code to offset the $11.00 shipping  AAAARRRRGGGGG!

Deep woods off, isn't that a deet based product?  Is this ok for horses?
Newfman

Absolutely not!  DEET is known to cause neurological problems in equines.

ok I got the whole meal deal on the butt mask thing.  After my horses refused to come out of the shelter because of horse flies tonight, and evenings are a great time to ride, I figure the only way to get my horse to come out of the shelter is to protect him.  Sure hope it works.  This is the site I got it off of.  Not too expensive if it works.  https://www.equestriancollections.com/order.asp

Yes these are the ones sherry showed me and you can buy the pieces separately.  I don't mean to sound like a broken record BUT the flies are really bad and very much interfering with riding and handling.  I can't remember a time that I have had this much trouble My horses don't leave the barn during the day and I have had friends tell me that their horses are also hold up in shelters.

It is the relentless attack of horse flies, many of them that are driving the horses inside.  It's not even safe in the shelter, but better.  Even though it's hot, thinking about pulling out those fly sheets for the early evening.  I've never seen it like this.  We used to ride in the evening all the time.  Maybe it was all the rain, or the horse flies are enjoying a healthy cycle, I don't know.  You can't ride between 7:30 and full dark.  Not if you don't want to get bucked off.  You'd have to cover you horse in swat, and I'm not sure it would work.

It's bad here but not THAT bad ! At least the buggers lay low at night. We're expecting a cool front and humidity relief by Thursday. 80 degrees expected
Perhaps you could remove the cap and pour the fly spray/mouth wash over the horse
