Forgot to introduce myself from the UK.Thanks again Passo Baby for letting me know about this site, especially as I can no longer afford the Savvy Club.
I am 50 on Friday, good grief! I swear they got my birth certificate wrong!
Came back to horses after 35 years, not fortunate enough to have my own horse and hated the whole riding school thing. For me it was always about a relationship with a horse not just riding. Didn't like what people did to them either and no such thing as NH available to me then. My love of horses had been stilted for all those years until I helped a friend (ex friend now!) buy a horse who needed TLC, I wasn't planning to ride him, way too much horse for me.
Cut a long story short he needed a field mate and I ended up with a loan pony, lovely though he was, a bit small for me. Mentioning that I wasn't going to keep him while at the local riding school I was offered Del. He had a tendon injury and needed a long rest, as he would never hunt again, his owner wanted rid of him and his future wasn't looking too great in the current climate. He was so sweet albeit a little shy of people and I decided to take a chance. Had him 5 months now.
He is a 15 year old 16.1 ex racehorse and we are teaching each other to trust again. Thanks to everything I have learnt through Parelli we are getting there. We are helping each other, him more than me probably, as his fears are real, whereas mine are manufactured in my head!
He amazes me every time I do something with him I am worried about. His trust in me is clearly making things much easier. Had the dentist out today and I was worried about how he would behave, he has had panicky moments and used to pull back and throw his head up. He was so patient, it took her ages as he didn't look like he had anything done for over two years, his cheeks were raw on the inside, cooeee! I know, I felt inside his mouth. He was so good and I was really proud of him. He is now barefoot too and his hooves look great. He is the love of my life, he makes me smile and I can't wait to ride him.
Sadly my dream may be limited as I am not sure I will be able to keep him. Finances in dire straights and could lose my house if I can't get things sorted out. I can't bear to think about it but have to face it sometime.
