Funny how things change...

Tonight I called my Mom from the road.  My husband & I are traveling & I wanted to wish Mom happy Mother's Day in case I have trouble reaching her while we're in the mountains.  Someone I know had stopped by the house - Mom's horse/collie sitting for us while we're away.  The guy goes up & said he was looking for me.  Mom said I was away but she'd tell me he'd stopped by.  He saw our mares in the pasture.  He whistled low & said, "WOW are those Robin's horses?"  Mom said yes.  He walked out a little ways, seemed to be mesmerized.

Mis was standing there behind the Grulla sisters.  Mom watched the mare come out from behind the girls.  It was the way she came out, the way she went from being a little shy to arching her neck & rounding her back.

The guy looked at my Mom & said, "I'm glad to see she got rid of that crazy gray that she used to have."  Mom said, "Oh, why's that?"  He leaned sideways & said as if telling a big secret.  "I know Robin thought she could save that mare but she was plumb crazy."  My mother told me that she bristled.  Doesn't matter if it's a grand kid, grand-pup, or gran-horse... you don't dis my mother's "grands".  Mis rocked back on her haunches and very slowly in a controlled manner reared.  Mom said the move was powerful and very magnificant.  The mare struck with her front foot and lowered herself in the same kind of controlled manner and when she touched down she snorted & flipped her head.  This is the ultimate 'screw you' from her.  She is not a mare that usually acts like a snotty punk.... not like my Gunny  My Mom called out to the mare and told her, "It's okay my beautiful girl."

He's clueless in this... so he asks Mom, "Who's that?  She's gorgeous."  Mom grinned & said, "I can tell you don't know my daughter too well.  Her name isn't plumb crazy... it's Mis... & it's the same horse."  So of course my mother proceeds to give him a southern sweet ear full about how I can ride her & what a good trusted mount the mare is.  Of course since this is MY mother she also invited him in for coffee & a piece of cake to get the boot taste out of his mouth.  LOL... oh man my mother is a lioness protecting her younguns

What's funnier is my Mom telling me how lovely the mare looked after the guy left, like she's a little proud of herself.  As if she's proud to be noticed... & that Mom bragged on her.  This guy is a nice guy who didn't mean any harm & he's normally a pretty good horseman but Mis really had him thinking I'd end up dead if I didn't put her down.  Oh what a difference a little faith makes
