Hawk isn't coming homeMany of you have watched Hawk grow up, send me to the hospital, and teach me more about horses than any trainer ever could. I sent him down to Tony and Jenny Vought's, For the Horse Ranch for two mos of training. Jenny fell in love with him, and well...he's not cominng home. He IS home. He's happy, gets ridden every day and lives in a herd in a huge pasture. Happy ending for a very good horse.

Just did a clinic with her last weekend, and she's doing pretty good. Better brakes than she had in the cow clinic. Or maybe I'm better at asking her to stop. The saddle fits her great, but feels like I'm on a camel after riding in the treeless. Think I will be doing another clnic on Dec 3rd, and then head down on the 15th of Dec to pick her up and spend couple of days doing clinics with her and me. She's lost quite a bit of weight, so she looks like a normal horse. Hoping we keep some decent weather for a while so I can enjoy riding her once she gets home.
Heading down to play with the cows this weekend on Bitty. I'll take lots of pics!

Jenny and Tony compete in the worlds at versatility and reining. Hawk is fast and loves versatility. He's pretty good at cutting on line, so I think we'll be hearing a lot from this little horse. He couldn't be in a better place to shine. They understand the extreme lbe play drive, and can channel it for good, not evil. Plus he's in the same kind of environment that he was here. Big pasture, bigger herd, plus tons of riding. I know he's too much horse for me, and he needs a confident rider that will give his mind a place to go. Don't think I'll be riding any more trotting horses except Bit. She still has the most comfy trot I've ever sat. Good cow horse too.
If we just take the time, that perfect human is out there for each horse. If we just take our time, (I leaned this a little late), we can find that perfect horse for us to. No, "he's pretty, he's an arabain!!!!" or whatever. So important to take your time, figure out what you like to do, the kind of horse that fits you best, and then buy your horse. We just don't take enough time or care when we choose our horse's and then we blame the horse for not being right for us. Like any relationship, I think. I'm getting a bit better at my choices these days.

I think that might be why I never accepted the NO about Bodie and Buddy (now Tanner.) I had spent so much of my life with them I knew them and they were nearer than any other horses I had met. I knew I wanted them and I knew what I was getting. With he exception of the near kick to he skull, I know exactly what I'm getting out of Tanner before it happens. Kind of comforting when you know your horse and you are on the same level and you can't imagine ever giving this horse up.
I know you had Eclipse up for sale-- now I bet you are real glad she didn't sell. What a wonderful mare. And Bit, she just sounds lovely. I can picture her tail swinging slowly back and forth to her slow jog.
Hope Hawk appears in some world magazines so we can all keep track of him

When I pulled in to pick up Eclipse today, Hawk ran all the way in from the back of a 15 acre pasture, and met me at the gate. He was calling to me. Then, he just stared at me, and me at him. Hawk? Hawk! I ducked between the electric fence wires and walked up to him. He breathed me in, his eyes softened, and I held him. I held him and whispered to him how very much I loved him. He couldn't breath me in enough, nor I him. I hung out with him quite a while. When I left, I walked out to say goodbye and try to explane that this was his home, now. This is where he lives, and I will come see him as much as I can. He followed me to the gate and watched as I climbed into the truck. He called to me as I drove away. I cried all the way home.

I'm ok, and so is he. He doesn't understand what good things will be coming for him. He is going to be a reining cow horse, has an amazing trainer, and the guy "gets" horses like Hawkie. He wants Hawk to be happy. It is the best home a horse like Hawk could have. Tony has a way of bringing out the very best in a horse. Not forcing it, but bringing it to blossom and celebrating with the horse. Tony's horses love him.
I wish ya'll could see Eclipse. She was a horse that would argue, she was fussy, didn't even like the horses in her own herd. Didn't like much of anything. She came home happy. Willing. My dream horse. I know Hawk will enjoy a great life and I'll get to see him all I want. I couldn't imagine a better outcome for him.
