Woo hoo I am SO excited to have accidentally stumbled across this forum whilst searching for info on bareback pads (which I still haven't made my mind up about incidentally

)

My name is Jodie and I am currently freezing my bum off in Tasmania.

The love of my life is Layla, a 6 year old part arab mare that I have had since birth. I rescued her mum from the slaughterhouse, completely unaware she was very early in foal.

Anyway our journey is a novel length story, for another time.

Back in the year 2000 I had a QH x gelding and I had really lost my confidence, to the point where I was going to sell him and get a 200 year old standardbred because that is what I thought would make me feel safe.

As fate would have it around that time I met an amazing woman who was doing PNH and so was introduced to it. She was doing all this wild stuff like "lunging" her mare in an open paddock with nothing on!!! and riding in a halter with one rein.........blow my mind stuff.

So my PNH journey began, I am certain that had I not had my friend there to support and encourage me, I would have given up because there is only so many times one can hit oneself in the head with the end of the rope, end up with a carrot stick nearly up your nose and the like before feeling disillusioned (and like crying or killing someone or both )

Anyway I got my level 1 PNH in August 2001 and I was over the moon, the horse I was scared of I was now cantering around on bareback in a halter with one rein.

I started looking at level 2 but at that stage a lot of the PNH people at my paddock were, in my opinion, getting too righteous and judgemental for me, there was a very strong focus on "achieveing tasks, passing levels etc" and I simplely did not have the money or the time as a single parent of a 6 year old to go any further. I felt happy with where I was at and so I drifted off doing my own thing, practising the principles etc but pretty much on my own.

Fast forward 10 odd years and I have Layla, and I have wound up in a similar place, lost heaps of confidence, feeling like she is too much horse for me but I would NEVER sell her as she is my girl, so after quite a bit of distress, confusion, frustration etc I have decided to re-connect to my Natural Horsemanship Journey.

I checked out a few of the now MANY options for studying but have returned to PNH for the simple reason it has a comprehensive program which works for me, I am a huge fan of the levels, I am a person who does best with structure, steps to take and somewhere to aim for.

So I joined the Savvy Club as there isn't really a PNH or even NH community near me. I had a look around the forum etc but felt like it was a ghost town

where are all the Australian people? Actually where are any people? I have met one really nice woman on there but she is a couple of hours away

Anyway I stumbled across this forum, had a browse and I LOVE IT! I love the friendly and respectful way people interact and I love how you can be studying PNH but still express that there are things you don't like and talk about other teachers, methods etc

It is absolutely the place for me and I am really excited to be a member

You're going to love it here.

There are a lot of people who are very knowledgeable about PNH, but plenty too who are enjoying exploring other trainers and instructors as well. Definitely a diverse crowd and I feel like I'm always learning something!

I am really looking forward to contributing and learning and sharing and getting to know you all and your beautiful horses.

Jodie, that is a very nice thing to say about the forum. I think it's safe to say we almost all share Parelli as our foundation and have branched out and explored many other clinicians and brought much more to the table here. It is also a place where it all can be discussed freely.

Yes we know Belinda. Somehow the playdates manage to clash with other obligations. Might get to one soon. I highly recommend Chris C, PP, she tries to do a clinic in tassie over summer. Well worth it if you can make it.
