Hello from the Netherlands

Me: Laura, 23 years old, in love with horses as long as I remember, can´t stand if anyone makes me do something, in NH since 2 years and I bought my own horsey 2 years ago.

My horse: Highland pony gelding that I call Frodo, 4,5 years old, usually pretty quiet, but can be ´all over the chart´ (it´s already getting much better)

What we ´do´: groundwork, walking around in the forest, start riding.

I´m glad that is was given a link to this forum before really investing in doing Parelli. I think some of the Parelli stuff is beneficial for both me and my horse, but not all of it. So I´m figuering out what is missing and what I need to do/know etc.

At the moment I´m reading Karen Rohlfs book and watching the DVD´s. I think she has great ideas. But we are not ready to do this kind of stuff, we are still working on more basic stuff, like partnership but also riding. I want to be able to go forward on a more or less straight line, making turns etc. Standing still again is important to me too, and i want to trot and canter is the balance is good enough. And ride outside of the arena of course

This is what we can do right now:

(this summer I fell of 4 times in a row, he cot scared then somehow and I wasn´t able to read that correctly, so we needed this!)

Good ideas are always welcome!

wave  wav Welcome Laura!!! You show  such a gentleness in your videos. Falling off just tells me that I have left something out of my relationship with my horse somewhere. It will get better with time on and off your horse.
This is such a nice forum. Hope you enjoy your time here.
I have a quarter horse and a donkey. I have loved horses since 1957! I was only 2 years old. That love gets in your heart and never lets go.   Beth

Laura, I LOVE that picture of you and Frodo.  What a lovely shot.

I also like your nice, patient, gentle way with Frodo, and his demeanor shows it.

I recently bought Steve Halfpenny's DVD set on colt starting, which is Parelli's method, but right to the point and without all the talking. Seeing where you're at right now, I think it would show you how to progress from here. And it won't set you back a fortune.  Get the Foundation programme:

There are plenty of people on here that can give you the 'how to' of anything you get stuck on.

It looks like you are doing an excellent job and just need the follow on.  Welcome to the Forum.  This is a great place for learning.

Thanks!

I will cosider buying those DVD´s. This forum is great I think! All these people with at least one common goal: good partnership and communication with their horses. I hope I can contribute something too
