Hello from UKHi everyone
I used to be on the other forum but cancelled membership a while back as had a few negative things said about me and my horse, who unfortunately i have since sold. The decision to sell him wasn't easy and I felt a terrible failure, but i am only 5ft and he had grown to nearly 17hh.
I then went to Ireland and rode a littel cob in the mountains, my hubby said he had never seen me so happy. When i came home i bought a little 14.2hh irish cob called Gypsy, she is the sweetest little mare, no nasty vices etc.
Because she is so good I wasnt going to do any parelli with her, but then
just started doing little bits and pieces. I ride her bareback to and from her field in parelli headcollar and 12ft rope. She stands on tarporline and will back on it as well, she has it thrown over her. I can stand behind her
and push her forward and pull back by her tail.
Because of this i rejoined the parelli forum only to find that a lot of you who i had spoken to had disappeared.
So here I am on your forum, i'm 57 years old, don't know how far i want to go with parelli but we shall see.
I now have the patterns and success series but not sure which to watch first.
Any suggestions???

Hi Bridget - welcome to the forum!
Your little horse sounds delightful. I hope you'll like it here - it's a great place to learn new things.

Bridget~! I'm so glad you're here and am looking forward to knowing you better :D
You are probably allot further along in your horsemanship journey than some-! You have followed your
heart & kept yourself free to develop your relationship with your sweet little Gypsy girl~! And for that,
you have my utmost respect!
I haven't purchased the Patterns program but I do have the Success Series. The simplicity in that set was
refreshing to me. I just found it didn't measure up to the hype or the money I paid for it.
HOWEVER, I have it in my library and will share it locally with those who are interested in a simplified
version of Parelli, as we once knew it.
A friend of mine sold her Success Series and purchased L&HB from eBay and was thrilled with her switch.
If you haven't gotten L&HB yet, that would be a great series to add to your library when you can.
ANYHOOO, you're going to like it here, of that I feel certain... Big Smiles for you.., Suzie!

Hi Bridget,
I'm on the other side of the country from you in not-so-sunny Shropshire. I remember your story and no one should ever be so rude as to comment on what is best for you and your horse; only you are the judge of that. From what I remember, your huge horse is now happy in his new home so everyone won in the end!
Hope you have a good look around the site and visit frequently and have fun with Gypsy; she sounds wonderful.
Oh and I agree with Kristie's suggestions as to where to start.

Welcome Bridget. I also remember your story. It is pretty easy for people to make rash judgments about situations they don't understand. The fact is a lot of horses are too much horse for most people.
Glad to see you have found your dream horse in Gypsy. She sounds so sweet.
I think Kristen's suggestion is a good one. If you watch those DVDs and are still having problems, I'd sell both and buy the Old Level 1. But definitely give what you have a try first. There is also Parelli's old Natural Horse-man-ship book that is really good and cheap, available from Amazon. It should be able to fill in any holes you have.
Good luck and welcome here.

Hi Bridget,
You made it! Welcome to the Dark Side.
It takes a good horse person to recognise they and a horse are not compatible and do something about it, so congratulations on doing that and finding your dream horse.

PhotosHi all,
Thanks for warm welcome.
I have tried to put a picy in the avatar but not having much luck, and got
fed up trying in the end.
I will ask my daughter who is a bit whizzy on the puter to do it for me.
Will pop some pics on on as well.
I have the level 1 set, which i used with Harley.
Why is the L&hb better, what is in it????
I asked Julia what she thought Gyps horsenality was, she thought LBE which is what I did think. If I list below what she is like perhaps you could
suss her out as well.
Gyps personality details
friendly
doesn't kick or bite
food orientated but wouldnt trample you for it.
very placid
doesn't like you going straight to her face to touch her have to go via her neck etc.
stamps back leg if ratty
i can crawl under her even when she has her head in feed bucket
definitely not a plod
very forward going, dont need any leg on her
got brakes
doesnt spook (as yet)
if i canter or gallop she can get excited and jog but i dont feel unsafe now.
picks feet up for you clean out.
comes straight up to me in field when i call her.
Whynnys in morning when she hears me and when i go to field to get her.
Sorry rather a big post, look forward to what you have to say.
Just as success series and patterns turn up i have to go away for the weekend, so can't start watching until monday.

Sounds like a confident but mild LBe, Bridget!
L&HB is gold, if you can afford it I would recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about their horse. It contains in-depth information on horse behaviour and how to be a good leader. It is my first go-to point if I'm feeling a bit stuck.
