Hello! Newbie here!Hey guys, I thought I would introduce myself in this part of the forum.
I've been reading through everything, and I'm loving all the hoof pics.
I started touching up our horses' feet about a year and a half ago, and then in June 2009, I started to trim our mini hinny's feet. They have come quite along way, and thanks to Mike (he got them back on track for us! Thanks Mike!) they are just about where they should be now!
Anyway, I'm going to take a KC La Pierre course in August and then (hopefully) do the trims in between when Mike comes, so he only has to come every 8-9 weeks.
Then (Lord willing) I'll probably go for getting certified by KC and become a certified equine podiatrist when I'm 19 (ish).
I'm really excited about the course in August! My mom told me, "I think you found your nitch." And I think she's right! I get so excited over their ligaments, frogs, soles, digital cushions and deep flexor tendons!
Woohoo! hehe!
Anyway, Eddie's feet were trimmed with the Strasser method before, and now that Mike's trimming them with KC's method, they look amazing! The difference is incredible!

Welcome! You've chosen 'baptism by fire' by posting in the farrier forum, but we'll try to be sure everyone treats you kind! Definitely posts pics of your horses and what you do with them etc, too! (may as well do it here since this is your intro post!)
It's great learning how to trim your own, and esp. if you're young! I'm 35 which isn't too old but I still decided after trimming my own (and considering trimming for a living) that its way too much work to do for a living! LOL

Thanks Erin!
Yeah, either I'll be really fit when I'm older from trimming, or have a really bad back. But that's a while away when I'm hoping to start trimming other peoples' horses. Upwards of 3 or 4 years away, so I have time to strengthen my legs with some nice wall sits!
Thanks for the welcome!

I have a hoofjack which helps keep me from putting too much extra work on the lower back, although even still, admittedly the most tired part of my body after trimming is the lower back. But when I trim without my hoofjack, it's torture! lol I think as long as you are sure to keep your body stretched and get chiropractic or massage or whatever helps put you back together, your body could hold up pretty well....

Yeah! The Hoofjack is a life saver!! I absolutely love mine!
Definitely! I think the only thing that bothers me after trimming are my legs and knees. Thankfully that's about it!
Do you do Pete Ramey's trim? I read his books, and they are very good! I find that you can take something from everything that you read.
