Horse dating

So it's been a month since I put my Bert down and I have started looking for a new partner.

This horse dating thing is hard work!  Been on three dates so far. No match yet.

I'm in PA if anyone knows of something. Here are my requirements so far:

Not gaited
Gelding
5-10 years old
14.2 to 16.0 hh (my boy was a 16.3 TB, but I’d like to get a little closer to the ground this time)
Left Brained with a big personality. I like my horses quirky.
Built for comfy bareback riding
Healthy and sound with decent conformation
Breed and background doesn’t matter

Love that you're callign it dating.    What a great idea for a TV show...it would be more interesting than the Bachelor.

Good luck on your journey.  I kissed a lot of frogs before I found Strider.  Make sure they ride the horse first.  I got on very few of the horses that I drove in some cases hundreds of miles to see, mostly because I've been bucked off and broken bones before and really don't want to repeat that experience if I can help it.  It's amazing what they will try to tell you is kid safe - one of the mares I didn't get on because she bucked and reared was billed as kid safe.

What's your budget?  You can p.m. me.

I found looking for my new partner to be healing - of course hubby forced it on me quickly, and it was a real whirl-wind.  I had no idea there were so many horses in my area!

Part of me wishes I held out for what I *really* wanted (a baby) but I really do like Ty.  When I saw him, I knew.  There was an automatic connection.  It just felt right.

Hope you enjoy the process  Keep us posted!

Hehe, darn, thought we were talking about dating other equestrians. I was getting excited! Paid for a month on Equestrians Singles. Not one single hit I think it's because I talked aboit being an animal activist and vegetarian. Think I probably scared all the country type guys away

But, alas, this topic is much more interesting and too love that you're calling it dating. Hope you find your horsey soul mate

Big horse date on Friday night! Send me lots of positive vibes please.  I am trying not to get too excited, but I really think he is the one.

Fingers and toes crossed!

I like the "horse dating" idea too...although I have to admit I never enjoyed dating.

Emili, if you want a horse guy, you need to hang out near a Veterinarian school....then he can afford your habit!   You can also go to feed and tack stores, rodeos and ropings...but none that will deal with "Vegetarian" very well at any of those!    You'll find some near the Zoo, but I should warn you, Zoos don't pay well and you you'll have to date in the parking lot.

Katharine, I think you NEED a gaited horse!   And if you have trouble finding one...ask me!  I know people all over.  There are some REALLY NICE ONES in the classifieds of this forum.

So how did the big date go???? I hope you met Mr right!!

Friday night's date went pretty well. He comes with a boatload of emotional baggage though, so I need to dwell on it for a while and look around to see what else is out there. His present owner is also suffering from seller's remorse and is rethinking her decision to sell.

I am trying to have faith that it will work out the way it is supposed to. In the meantime I feel like Goldilocks... this horse is too big, that one too small, this one too old, this one too green..

Where is Mr Right?  : )

Have you tried equine.com for your area?  It is like dating.  Lots of first dates, but when that ONE comes along, you know.  Take your time, and keep your intent clear.  You want a keeper, not a renter.

Oh yes, my daily search includes craigslist, equine.com, dreamhorse.com, horsetopia, horseclicks and correspondence with all my local horse friends.  It's nearly a full time job.

It's sad how many people have horses that are just sitting. I have looked at several 11 year olds who have had less than 30 days under saddle.  It's a shame. I just haven't clicked with any yet.

It's emotionally draining, you know? With each horse there's the excitement over the possibility, time spend finding out more about the horse, its history, it's humans, sometimes it's sad situation...traveling to see it, riding it,  and then the let down when it's not the right one.  Thank goodness for Youtube and digital pictures though. That technology does make the process a lot easier. At least I can rule some out that way.

OK, rant over. I am so lucky that I am shopping for a horse - that I am fortunate enough to be able to offer a home to one! I should quiet myself and be in the moment or I am liable to miss something important.

Thanks for listening.
