I am in love with Philippe Karl....

I just finished watching the #3 DVD, explaining piaffe, pirouettes, and passage.  I have watched the other two also

and I am just in love with the man.  I hope when I die I come back a horse that ends up in his barn!

His horses are so happy and fit, and I just love his wife's pony that she long-reins! Especially when the pony is in the stall next to where PK is giving a lecture.  The pony is constantly seeking attention from him...it's awesome.

Yes he is brilliant isn't he

His book and DVDs have been a real eye-opener for me - I find them so easy to follow.
I particularly like his mantra "leg without hand, hand without leg"  which really helps if you are easily confused like me!

Oh I didn't realize he had a book!  (scampers off to Amazon to have a look).

Thanks DaisyMae!

Twisted truths of modern dressage fits great with the dvd serie
carefreegirl

currently reading it, and it is great...right now I am on the weight aids section (just started it) and it is interesting as often it seems he is saying to do the opposite of what Parelli would say in the same situation with your weight/seat aid, though sometimes they would both do the same

--PK says to use your weight/seat aid on the side of the horse that the horse is putting more weight on himself---to stay in balance with the horse (not hinder it)--he gives the example of someone riding on your shoulders and if they put more weight on your right shoulder in order to stay in balance you would naturally want to go to the right......

and in contrast Parelli goes by the pressure theory of weighting the side of the horse you want the horse to go away from--as you are training the horse to move away from pressure....

It is interesting to me, I'm think that PK's makes more sense if you are wanting to go into higher level movements--which you would need a thorough working knowledge of where a horse puts it's weight in any given movement and moment, but Parelli's probably works fine for trail riders, etc. and I think is probably easier to understand for beginner riders. I'm still wrapping my brain around Pk's theory vs. Parelli's (though I know it's not just their theory of course) and still trying to understand PK's thoroughly, it has been a fun read.

What do you think Niek of the different theories since I believe you have read the book? Did what I typed make sense, and is what you understand of PK's theory? I'm just starting the section on this so may have it totally backwards or something.

Count me in on the PK admirers!

I know that weight thing has been a thing with me for awhile. Many years ago (I only rode English then) PK's way is the way I learned it. Then Parelli came along and I went "what ?" And I think it does work well for starting colts (Parelli) and quickly refine it to PKs way.

The book goes along exactly with the DVDs as if they were done at the same time.

So now when we have all these Clinicans in the USA, I become enthralled with  PK and SRS ( loved Mikola for years) instructors. Go figure......

PS. I would LOVE to have PKs ideas on Parelli, he would deal you straight! WAZ is way to kind.....
Niek

Several EU instructors study with him.. People like Mikey, Wally, Carmen Zulauf  and several others either ride with him or encorperate his ideas
*feels lucky

I prefer the PK way of laterals and where to sit, makes things more easy imo.

I'm thinking I am getting an early birthday present!  Wait, Passion's birthday is sooner, I'll get the book for her benefit!

Niek, thanks for the response on laterals, that is where I am having trouble.  I have been trying to sit as per Linda Parelli, I can do it when I am not on the horse, but when I get on, I get tense and tight and it just falls apart.  I think I am trying too hard and making it difficult.  Although I DO have some nice video of us, I just can't get it uploaded to YouTube, wrong file type.

Cynthia, ya go figure I would find someone I like and he would have to be from France!  Has he EVER done anything here in America?
Niek

i think he will be doing something in the states end of this year beginning next, but not sure yet

Why is his book "Reitkunst " $355?????  Has anyone read it?  It is in French, I think?

That would be German. I assume it is out of print?  And a classic??  That's a hefty price.  The Twisted Truths book is $45, which is also out of my range right now!!!  GiddyUpFlix has his dvds, thankfully, so I can at least get those!
Julie

Twisted truths is fab! His ideas do work, I have used them to train my horse, and now have an instructor who trained with Charles de Kunffy who is again similar and understands what I am doing.

Best not ride like Linda Parelli I would say, it gets too confusing!

"Reitkunst" is in German. It was out of print for a long time, nobody would sell theirs, and the demand was great - therefore the prices went up like     . There's a new edition now, in German. I don't know if there are any translations.

Another fan of Phillipe Karl! I've only watched his first DVD so far but I'm taking the second one on holiday with me to watch and am going to buy his book as soon as I get back. The high hands things worked great from me, really helped Olivia to stop leaning on the bit.

Count me in as a PK fan!   He really does nice work!

Instead of spending $$ on the SC membership this year, I'm going to go on a dvd buying spree.  I think PK's will be at the top of my list.

Ditto!  Just dumped my Silver Membership.  For $50 a month, I can join giddyupflix AND add to my own library

SWEET!
