I am SOOOOOO excited! Belhaven Equine Solutions is ROLLING

well, I did it. I am now officially taking on rehab clients.

I had my first vet/client consult yesterday and am working on a horse with some pretty tough navicular issues.

He is an absolute doll and his owner is so in love with him.

I have a second shoe rehab case with typical long/low hooves.

PLUS 4 other clients.

The tough cases involving vet consults are just so fascinating to me.

I have organized my LLC, insurance and just made my business cards with my mac.

I am going to have detailed case studies of the two I am starting with.

This is 6 years of study and work coming together and I have NEVER been more excited on passionate about something.

Anyway, just wanted to share in between a big day of 'office work' to get set up for what will hopefully be many more live clients.

NOT that I don't love forum talk....
calatar

That's awesome Leah! I am very excited to hear about your case studies and how they progress .
jokersmama

That is AWESOME!

Right on!

How great to get to do something you are so passionate about, you'll never work a day in your life!

That is a dream of mine someday also.

I can't wait to follow your progress!
mariab

Brilliant will be great to see the outcomes and hear about them, would love to do something like that myself
alva

This seems to be your specialty. If I lived closer you would have me and my horse clients also.

Congrats. This is going to work out great for you.
Leah

thanks all. It has been in the making awhile but I still wanted some more pieces before I took on outside clients.

I still have much much more to learn!

I am just so happy to have a vet on board with helping horses bare-it makes it all less...
PasoBaby_CarolU

Congratulations Leah.  I hope it all works out for your.  There is nothing like making a business of our passion.   Best of luck and will be plugging for you.
Leah

thanks Carol!

I can vouch for your worthwhile support too, Leah. Thankyou very much for your help. Sonny's feet are looking really good these days. I will have some amazing shots after his feet are done again tomorrow.

Chablis

Congratulations and good luck.

crap you just made me tear up.
appellativo

Yay! Congrats!

I would LOVE to know more about working in conjunction with a vet. How did you go about finding a vet (that's not shoe happy), I'd like to be a fly on the wall when you were first talking about working with him/her using barefoot to rehab hooves. I'm only taking on relatively healthy feet now but maybe somewhere in the future, years from now, I would love to (once I have more experience under my belt) help out some horses who are worse off.
ElaineC

Leah, that is wonderful!  You have more than earned your success, here's hoping it only gets better for you  You help so many people and horses already, its good to know things are going so well.
Leah

Well today I trimmed 3 horses. Two are very tough rehab cases.

I spent all afternoon setting up webpages for all my new clients and my own horses...each telling s story about the horse and hoof photos.

I have not made these pages a part of my website JUST yet but will put the link up when I do.

It was a GREAT day.
alva

Can't wait to see.......

Congrat!

And to think you are a Lawyer by trade and could have been at a fancy desk, in a fancy room, with your fingernails all clean and polished... But you chose this...for the love of the horse...
Leah

Very cool Leah! It looks like you have your work cut out for you but I know you are always up for a challenge . I can't wait to see how they progress.

Yes I do. These problems did not happen overnight so they will not correct overnight.

I am playing a balancing act between correcting things as fast as possible while not making the horse so sore we lose ground.

Very challenging.

I am just so lucky that each of the horses is very patient and kind.
calatar

jokersmama, I LOVE the emoticon LOL!!!

Leah

I have now included my horse Julian (no trim photos yet-sorry) and will be adding Hugo and Polo very soon.

Milo may take longer...he has had such issues that I want to show some good changes first.
jokersmama

I love it! That is SO cool! I'm so bummed I live on the other side of the country from you! I want to come watch and learn SO bad!

Also anxious to see how those cracks turn out...
Leah

I have revamped the pages on my horses, added photos and personal information :-)

Julian, Polo, Milo and Hugo are complete!
CoolsLadyInRed

I am not a farrier but love all the information you and everyone else shares. Haven't gotten through all the stories and pix but plan on it! So cool!
Leah

Well I now have my listing on The Horse's Hoof...reading it on another page makes me feel very official!
barnelda

Leah, your website is incredible! Those horses are lucky to have you.
Leah

thanks
kristenhorseluv

This is awesome and brave of you to put all the information out there.
Leah

Vet was out and took rads of Hugo! I will be posting them later today.

So cool.
Leah

Hugo's rads are on his hoof page
calatar

Very cool! Who does your rads and how much do they cost?
Leah

Dr Elliot at Horner & Nash but I don't know the cost
calatar

Any updates on your case studies???
Leah

I trim tomorrow. It take more than 3 weeks! LOL
calatar

Haha, I wasn't sure if you were doing two or three week intervals .
new2thejourney

How did I only find this today??!!!

Leah - Congratulations mate, I admire you, your learning structure and your efforts to not only talk the talk - now you are walking your talk...

The Universe is definately tipping in the right direction......  it's cool to be alive today.

Now.....  (grumble, grumble)....if only I can figure out a way to move my family, house, business to another country and come and put down roots next to you so my horse could become your client and I could learn from you...... if only....

Seriously - way to go girl!!!

Karen

Leah

thanks Karen!

I have a weekend of trimming ahead of me!

This is heaven for me!
Leah

Today was a SLICE heaven.

Two current horses improving.

Two new clients were angels.

Heaven.
jokersmama

Now you get to spend all night uploading pics??
cory

Took some time today to look through your web site - it's apparent you are putting a lot of thought and study into the horses' health and feet.

It takes a lot of time to update pages and post pictures, but could you post some pictures of your own personal horses' feet that you've been working on for a few years so we can see what you have described as good balance?  Maybe the pictures are there and I missed them - my computer was slow in bringing up your pages - but I didn't see them under the case studies pages.  If you've already posted these pictures somewhere on this forum, can you direct me there?
Leah

cory I had them posted. Someone from another forum 'took' them without permission and used them to criticize barefoot trims.

I removed them until that matter was cleared.

If you go to my site you will see many references to James and Yvonne Welz. They have many photos on their site showing excellent hoof balance.

I trim with the same goals in mind.
Leah

Awesome weekend.

Trimmed 10 horses.

10 horses walked up, 10 horses trimmed. 10 horses walked off after the trim better than before.
calatar

WHAT!? What did they say? That is absurd!
Leah

Don't sweat it. Photos have been removed. Life goes on.

The good news is the horses that are feeling good tonight!
cory

Leah, sorry someone was critical of barefoot trim, but don't let that dissuade you from posting your pictures.  As someone who is advertising a solution, you should be proud of your accomplishments with your horses' feet and stand up to the scrutiny.  There are always going to be people critisizing barefoot, just as there are plenty of people who have found it works.

You may be shy or upset about the scrutiny, but if you believe in what you are doing, and your horses have outstanding feet, why does it matter what dissenters say?  How are potential customers going to know what you offer if you don't show your successes?  There are many trimmers out there who say they follow so and so, and point to pictures of what those trimmers are doing, but pictures of your own individual work is what would make you credible.  I know I wouldn't let a trimmer touch my horses until I've seen some of their 'finished' product.

As for stealing pictures -- hey, this is the internet and if it goes on the net, no matter that you have a stern warning that nothing can be shared, it's gonna be shared.  Do the Welz' (or other barefoot trimmers with pictures on their sites) care if people look at their hoof pictures and critique them?

Believe in yourself and your work - don't let negative opinions of faceless, nameless people on the internet take away your confidence in showing what you can do.

BTW Leah, I'm IMPRESSED!!!

If I trimmed 10 horses I'd be in the ER with pain meds (Hello Oxycoton, Hello Rush!).  Congratulations.   I can't even trim one!

I like to ride 10 horses...or five horses twice...or all my horses ONCE, in a weekend.

I think I have problem between the metal in the rasp and the pain cells in my arm.

Leah

cory I am not ashamed of my work. I was upset that someone took my photos without my permission and used them out of context on another website.

I removed them temporarily until the issue was resolved.

I do share photos and will share photos. I can email them to clients, take photos with me and always invite people to my farm.

I actually think it is interesting that clients want photos of trimmer work. I rarely see farriers have websites with photos of shoe work.

Just interesting.

Trust me cory I am not shy.
Leah

Carol-10 in 2 days! Not all in one.

Most of the full time trimmers I know do trim 8-10 a day! I would be dead. On the spot!
calatar

Even over two days that is STILL a good workout. I know Cindy used to do a farm with 15 horses in one day!!! Looking back it seems like insanity LOL.
Leah

wow! another new client TODAY! Gotta go trim!
new2thejourney

Leah, this is just the beginning!

"I actually think it is interesting that clients want photos of trimmer work. I rarely see farriers have websites with photos of shoe work.

Just interesting."

I find it interesting that this is not the common practice for both barefoot trimmers and farriers who shoe+trim.

We own our own tattoo & piercing studio, and without our photo albums of the work we have done ourselves, there is high probability we would not have as many customers as we do - but because we have photographic proof of the work from our own hands we have a steady clientelle and constantly attract new clients.  True, we pick the best work to put in our albums!  but they are still our own work.  Imagine how much more informed someone would be if they could have a look at albums and photo's of work you have done yourself?  Like before, during and after shots?!!  That would be impressive to have, not only for potential clients, but as a nice memory for you to keep for yourself.

Any way, back on topic - I'm really happy for you Leah and I can feel your excitement in your posts!!!

I agree it is important to see how someone trims or shoes.

I do not believe it is necessary to see it over the internet. One can see the work in person or through email or through a book of photos.

Again, my issue is having people violate ownership rights by taking photos without permission and using them out of context.

Heck I have plenty of bad photos that I am willing to share to show what not to do...but again those are MY photos.

There are copyright laws for a reason.
mariab

It is so nice to see your work on your web site and so useful in my own quest with my own trouble some horses feet, does look abit like your Milo so interesting.

Love the before and after pictures of the trims and each trim, I am also doing that in all my case studies and so interesting to look at the hooves as you go on, see how the work progresses and hopefully how we also really get the form and balance better all the time.

Good work find your wise words fabulous, keep on trimming but mind yourself
Leah

thanks Maria!

What do you mean mind myself??? That sounds daunting!
Leah

OH-if you have one like Milo, do you mind sharing photos with me?
Leah

Here is a page of a horse I just trimmed last weekend:

http://www.belhavenequinesolutions.com/Main_Site/Hoof_Gallery.html

He has very nice feet.
mariab

Your back, your knees your elbows your whole body  happy7 . If I do to many get a day of tendon pain around elbow all that rasping and nipping still find the nippers fandangely but getting the hang of them now able to do them one handed with the woman sized ones.

Find engaging those stomach muscles pilates style a big back saver, problem is sometimes you get so into the whole thing your forget about all these things, like taking after shots as well
Leah

I have been doing an intense workout program since December-Tony Horton's P90X. I think the core/ab worked has kept him upright!
