It's sad...people are doing what they need to.  I would like them to do what pleases me.   Apparently that is not what is happening .

I like that thinking. And I don't tolerate abuse of animals either. A society is judged by how they treat their animals. Even the Bible says to care for your animals.

I have to say the blog was very well written and calls people out on over breeding and put out the old horses.  Plus, doing away with the Mustangs.  Nicely written and to the point.

Hmmmmm. They're doing what they think/feel they need to do. That's not the same thing as doing what they need to. Is it?

What keeps people from doing what they really need to do?

Empathy, perhaps?

I agree with a lot of it. I think taking on an animal is a responsibility and if you aren't prepared to deal with it, you shouldn't do it.  I also think overbreeding is still a huge problem in this country and THAT is really the only solution.  It really drains resources at all levels and we just don't have enough "extra cash" to deal with it all.   It always comes down to people being irresponsible and eventually the government has to regulate it, and then people scream about government interference, when it could all be avoided IF people could just be trusted to do the right thing.

The only thing I really disagree with is the part about the mustangs.  No one is proposing getting rid of all the mustangs.   Their number, just as the domestic number, has to be managed at sustainable levels.  There is not a magic solution there either.

I do feel her pain though.  You can only handle so much emotionally.

Thank you for this Carol.  I could not possibly agree more.

Because I am in the camp of this letter writer we are also on a mission of expressing "get off your bum and DO SOMETHING."   Semi philisophical musing is a waste in this stage of the game.   More action, fewer words is where we are at.

Yakking about it is easy, I know doing something is hard...but I'm getting there, slowly.

When I first when to the link it scared me.  I thought Habitat was closing down, whew!  I support them and think what they do is incredible, I also agree, 100% with what he says.

Until people stop thinking of horses as a way to make money (like that will EVER happen!) we will be faced with over breeding and the problems that come with it.

I love animals.  I will take an animal over a human any day.  My animals are with me for life and I will do whatever it takes to keep them safe, happy and healthy.  I don't have the resources to take on all unwanted, uncared for, old and/or abandoned animals or I would.  So I do what I can for the animals that touch my life.  And send money to help people like Jerry do what they do.

I don't understand how people can look in the eyes of any animal and hurt it.  I don't want to understand them and unlike Jerry, I've never tried.  I never will.
