There are several excellent photos showing the dissection of a cadaver hoof to expose the frog structure.
Here is a short excerpt from the article:-
It is common for hoof care professionals and veterinarians to turn a blind eye to disease within the capsule wall, sole, and frog (Photos 6 & 7), but observers may not understand what they are looking at, how damaging it is, or how to address it successfully. It is essential to change this paradigm, so that practitioners begin to recognize that internal hoof structures need to be disease-free in order to provide the back half of the foot with shock absorption, protection to internal structures, balance, expansion, decontraction, and energy dissipation.
Findings from my own dissections of hundreds of hoof capsule shapes, ages, and pathologies over the past six years invalidate claims that poor conditioning from a lack of movement and contraction is the cause of weak digital cushions. In my study, weak heels were most likely to be accompanied by diseased frogs, creating pathology in the heel structures, including flat soles, underslung and crushed heels, and prolapsing of the frog, causing it to be unable to support the upper structures of the hoof.
The aftermath of a digital cushion unsupported by a healthy live frog, or of a digital cushion that has been crushed inward by a contracted capsule, is heel pain that manifests other problems to the hoof, leg, and body. But the condition appears to have been caused by disease in the frog, rather than by lack of movement— - because the collateral groove and the central sulcus hold unhealthy mud and moisture, the frog tubules become weak and rotted, allowing disease to reach up into the sensitive frog to develop inflammation and infection. Photo 8 Thrush, with its black discoloration, sour smell and grease-like appearance, begins to devour the live frog’s soft tissue, opening the foot to further infection. A pain response from pressure of the hoof pick in the collateral groove and the central sulcus is often a warning that this dangerous condition exists within the hoof.
Naturally enough when I press on Sonny's frog structures there is a pain response. I tested his heels & one is sore acording to the directions laid out in this article.
There’s also a short article with a fantastic photo of Karen Rohlf doing a nice trot in a halter. She has gone back to PNH & I hope it is her work which is the upcoming L4 & 5 on DVD.
There is an interview with Dr. Robert Miller: entitled The Conspiracy which I found very interesting in a sad way!
Part 2 will come in the next issue.
Here is an excerpt:-
(Incidentally, back at the stables at the show, one horse had a couple of gallons of blood withdrawn so it’d look tired with its head down the next day in the class. I saw another horse with its mouth tied to its hocks and I saw several horses with their heads tied up to the ceiling and just kept there all night until their heads drop from fatigue the next day. Terrible abuses. Terrible. All so that they would show successfully with their nose dragging on the ground).
Anky is also having her day in court regarding the rollkur issue:-
Goal of Lawsuit: Anky van Grunsven demands removal of photo and claims damages
The renowned dressage rider Anky van Grunsven feels defamated by equestrian journalist Astrid Appels of Eurodressage.com. According to Anky images of her horses can not be connected to the controversial rollkur training method. This is a system developed by Anky and her trainer and life partner Sjef Janssen in which the horse is bending its neck in an extreme way.

I used to be a member but I hated their online format. it was not user friendly for me. But I am curious about the Carousel feature, so if you don't mind, can you give a cliffs notes version? It talks about horses walking in circles in the forest night after night. It sounded intriguing.

I am a HorsesForLife Member, but I sometimes forget to check in when a new issue comes out. I wish they sent a EMail. I will check it out. In the meantime, I have to ask:
Whatcha' mean Karen R. have gone back to PNH? I didn't realize she left! I know she went to Phillip Karl for some lessons in Europe, can't wait to see her outcome on that! Wowza! And what new Level 4 and 5? You mean Parelli is putting out a New Level 4 and 5? That is the new release they bragged about to be released @ the WEG Games next month! Wowza again!? And Karen actually has some input into those New Levels (4 and 5) Now, I could go for that!

Would be fantastic for PNH if Karen Rohlf is helping them again.
