light coronet band seems to be lengthening - want infoDeuce's pale coronet band seems to extend farther all the time. There are a few inches all around his hoof which are light colored (black hooves). Is this normal?

Piccies?
Are you talking about the top half of the hoof below the coronet?

I can take a photo, yes. Yes, from the coronet band down, the top of the hoof is light colored "white".

| Quote: | | Just below the coronet, the walls are covered for about an inch by a cornified, opaque material named the 'periople'. In the palmar/plantar part of the hoof, the periople is thicker and more rubbery over the heels and it merges with frog material. Not all horses have the same amount of periople. Dry feet tend to lack this substance, which can be substituted with Hoof Dressing. | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse_hoof

Someone told me they think it is just new growth. This is Deuce and his feet.

Deuce is such a pretty guy!
My horses feet look the same this year. I think because it is drier than normal? I think that is the periople Blue Flame was referring to?
Nice summer tho, isn't it?

BEAUTIFUL Dun horse!!!!
I am experiencing this with my QH this year also... I am not sure what the deal is... it's not anything that is of major concern so my farrier tells me. Otherwise I would be on top of some organic natural remedy to cure it..lol

Thanks, y'all. It is a beautiful summer and yes, I wonder about slathering on something. If my hands were that dry, I'd put on lotion. Suz, did you go to the Parelli clinic with Carol Coppinger? I like the clicker so much better and I'm back on top of him at last - walking around round pen, turning. It's a start, but after so much time on the ground with him, it feels distinctly odd to be on a horse. And a welcome change.

no slathering. dry hooves are good.

Okay, Leah. I'll confine myself to my own skin and the slathering impulse.
