mare producing milk

Hi folks, I'm looking for some advice about my mare.  We have just moved house, Lady and her 3.5 year old gelding Gillie moved with us to their new pasture.  The journey was fine, only 3 miles.  For the first few days they were unsettled in their new pasture, but seem OK now, it's only been 2 weeks.  Last night I noticed Lady's bag was beginning to swell and gave her teats a squeeze, she's full of milk.  I haven't seen Gillie trying to suckle, he was weaned at 9 months and hasn't suckled since.  Do you think the stress of moving has brought this on?  She can't be in foal she hasn't been near a stallion.  Any other ideas as to why she's producing milk?
Thanks, Kate

Could be a false pregnancy.

I think I'd get the vet to check her hormones and I *think* there is a shot that can be given to stop milk production.  You don't want her to get mastitis.

I had a mare that had a small bag for YEARS.  never had an issue other than  some milk came out some times.  vet couldn't find anything wrong with her.  we tried using her as a nurse mare one time....it was a NO go!

When I brought Bubba home he was 4 months old, our mare at the time did start developing milk.   granted Bubba was trying to suckle on her and she took on the Mother role for him.   I doubt your 3.5 yr old is suckeling on her though.   Could be hormoal, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a vet check her out.
