My Filly is turning 3 next week!So my filly is turning three on May 17, yeah! So what do we think, can I start riding her lightly now, or should I wait until she is 3 1/2. She is pretty ready in terms of her preparation on the ground- and I have ridden her a few times for less than 10 minutes.
I really love this horse-- I want to have her for a while-- she is really bratty- but it is the type of thing that I just find really funny and amusing. I have been ponying her and she is great at that- and she is doing super on the ground. I should put a picture up.

Hawk was three in April, and Kelsey thought he was ready for his first ride. Kind of like realizing your teenage son is going to be driving. eeek. He is well along on ground work, and hopping on was non event. Ok, he hopped up on the pedestal because he was a little confused.
I'm sitting on him, moving his feet around, lateral flexing and a little backing.. I'm not going to do much, and Kelsy can take over in September. Just walking. Next year, trotting. Next year, I'm sure they will fly. He is her new endurance horse, and she is going to take her time with him.

I've been saddling her and hoping on now for about 6 months. SO I was thinking I could probably progress to walking/ trotting in straight lines out in the pasture and some mellow trail rides for less than 45 minutes. I would build up to that. I heard PK say he started his Dressage training at 3 1/2.
So far everything has been a non event. I even put her through all the things that Buck B recommends and even a 45' around her back legs is no biggy- she will lead by a flank rope also with nothing on her head.
