New Years Resolutions

So - its that time of year again

Its been a really big year for me this year - I took a year off full time work to go back to school and study. 12 months later, I'm fully qualified and have even scored myself a BRILLIANT job, with a BRILLIANT company, earning good money. One of the sacrifices I made this year, was moving my horse(s) from a massive agistment facility with arena's, roundyards, and 3000 acres of riding trails, to a small paddock, where they needed daily feed, and most of the riding was done on the road. Sante got sick, and I spent the second half of the year putting weight on him. When he was finally fat enough to ride, there was nowhere to bring him back into work, to ensure he was OK to ride out.

Add to that, when Sante was sick, I stressed out badly, and as a consequence gained 10kg's!!!

My horsemanship suffered this year. I basically did *nothing* with my horses except UDT. i have found a place close to home that i can move both horses, 5acre paddock, a paddock to ride in, a massive round yard and lots of company so we can go riding out.

So, I've spent the last few days thinking about my goals for 2012.

I'm trying to keep them realistic - here's what I'd like to acheive in 2012

*Bring both horses back "into work" improve my horsemanship, spending MUCH more time playing with my horses.
* Get healthy again. (My new job is situated across the road from a gym, so that should be pretty easy  )
*Save for a house deposit. (I am soooo sick of paying agistment. by the time i pay agistment, board and horse feed, I may as well be paying a morgage..)

So.. lets here it  - What would you like to work on in the new year?

Mine is pretty simple, be the best student I can be so I can be the best horseman I can be. Increase my horsemanship by a minimum of 1% each and every day, which equates to a 365% improvement over the next year.

Put the relationship 1st and become the best partner possible.

Happy New Year everyone, and as Pat says, "May the Horse be with you."

There is a section in the Midlife Horse Woman book about organizing your time so you prioritize and get more things accomplished.  I think THAT is what I need to do, and then everything else falls into place - exercise, horse work, house work.  Since I started taking these crazy drugs for neuropathy I am in a bit of a brain fog a lot.  I think if I make myself lists on sticky paper and use white boards I can keep track of what I'm doing and make myself schedule a lot better.

2011 went by so fast. Seems like winter is almost over and we haven't even gotten any snow yet. Although 2012 looks to be a great year. I'm determined to:
Get my diploma for Applied Equine Podiatry (http://www.appliedequinepodiatry.org/iaep/index.html)
Go to Buck Brannaman's clinic to audit in September
And ride Eddie more
It seems like we just do little things all the time and I know he is capable of so much more. Cantering, cutting, jumping, trail rides. He knows this stuff and it's just getting over both of our fears of 'what if.' It's a lot better now, but there's still a long way to go.
It's a never ending journey!
Merry 2-days after Christmas everyone, and happy new year!

The resolution I made last month is to show up, be who I am and let the chips fall where they may.

Probably ride a lot more.  Triple numbers most of the summer put a damper on riding.  Win a lot of money and move to Costa Rica.  Amanda and I have resolved to be better house cleaners, and are doing a good job so far.  Oh, get Shaunie restarted this spring.  Work on me being better, inside and out.  That'll touch everything.

Finally committed to Reiki I and II beginning at the end of February and back to Tai Chi.  2012 is an improvement year for me and I'm sure that it'll translate nicely to my herd.

Awesome resolutions guys :D

I just found out that my parents are paying for a horsemanship clinic of my choosing (for my birthday which is tomorrow). I'm kinda leaping out of my skin here, I CAN'T BELIEVE they are doing this. I mentioned in passing a few weeks ago the fact that I regret the fact that Sante & I have accomplished so little this year, and that 2012 I hoped to attend at least one clinic. And they are paying for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BRING ON 2012!!!!!!
Clarissa

Bundy what an awesome present that is! Do you have a potential clinic in mind yet?

I don't make NY resolutions. Things change so much it's impossible to stick to anything. Also if I wish for something it generally backfires. So I have to think of other backdoor ways to get my wishes.

But if I would like something in particular to happen regularly, it is that I have at least a little change left in my purse at the end of the week that I can put away for something important.

For me, riding & other horse activities are a long way off yet. While I am not in good health it's ok that I don't do anything with the horses. I'm sure they don't mind! It's not that I'm not doing anything at all with them. But more like just general daily advancement in life learning.

Cassie is picking up new tricks from watching me play with Jude & Sonny. She is settling in to maturity at 6yo & doing more thinking first rather than reacting first. She needs acknowledgement from me to confirm to her she is on the right track.

So that is something.

Don't forget compounding horsemanship interest, it will actually be much more than a 365% improvement.

One of my new years resolutions is to spend more time with Sugar...I'm hoping for five hours a week. (1 hour x 5 days a week)

I'm also hoping to ride more, as sometimes I get hyper focused on ground work. Also, Sugar LOVES trail rides so I want to work them in more often.

My Parelli goals are to achieve my Level 2 by old standards by the end of the upcoming summer.

Sounds like everyone has some great goals!

Getting Strider the last bit of recovered and doing fun things with him instead of concentrating on getting him well.  Actually using the trailer I bought before he got hurt - some of my friends go horse camping.

Clarissa - I'm looking at the Steve Brady Clinic - its only 40 minutes up the road from me :D

Moved Sante today into a 2 acre paddock :D He is SO BLOODY HAPPY. I left him running around the paddock like a lunatic playing with the two other horses in there :D
