Newbie from Australia, and a male

Hello All
I am from Merriwa NSW Australia, have been involved with horses for most of my life, and that is alittle on the far side of 50 lol. Both my wife and I became involved with PNH about 10 years ago.
I live and work on a beef cattle and sheep station (ranch) that is 24500 acres in size. I get to ride most everyday for work so I am one of the lucky ones.

regards
Steve

Welcome Steve!  Some of the finest men I know are named Steve...... I am certain you'll be no different.  Pull up a chair and give us some pics!  Oh and an awful lot of us are in that same age zone
Clarissa

Yeh g'day Steve!   wave

I've met 2 Steves at clinics in SE Qld in the early 2000"s. Are you one of them?

Does your wife & family do NH too?

Are all the horses on that station NH trained or are you just working with your own?
JackPNH

Yep that age group is becoming increasingly popular lol,

Clarissa I don't think we have met, yet. Yep my wife is a PNH person as well. Unfortunately the station horses are not NH trained but I ride my own horses for work and the good thing is that it is not frowned upon, and yep questions are being asked, so that is all good I reckon.

This is my partner - Jack

Thanks for the welcome
Steve

WELCOME STEVE!
What a gorgeous horse you have! Hope you enjoy your time here. I, too, am in the upper 50 range. Am jealous you get to ride your horse for your job.

Right on!
Welcome Steve and Jack.   Looking forward to hearing more of you cattle ranching adventures.

Jack is Beautiful.

Steve, what a gorgeous horse!  Is Jack short for Blackjack?  I am sure he makes an excellent ambassador for NH.

There are good things about working on a ranch, riding all day is one of them.  Riding all day on nasty days is NOT one of them...LOL

Ahhh, I'm a horse groupie.  Nice to have you here, but DANG!  What a nice horse you have!  Thanks for the picture!

Important questions Steve include,
how long since Jack was started,
how much work he does,
what breed he his,
what saddle you use &
what your riding style is.

Thanks for you kind words about Jack, he is one very special horse.

Jack is 13 this year and was started as a 2 y.o. I have had him since he was 3. It took me nearly 2 years to find the horse that I wanted, he had to be black, he had to be an Aust. Stock Horse and he had to have attitude. He was still a stallion when I found him and man did he have attitude. Jack is very much a LBI. His ASH bloodline is Rivoli Ray on both sides.

I ride a number of horses for work simply because where we live is very steep and hard country and because we ride most every day and for hours at a time it can be hard on horses. The other horses I am riding at the moment are Honey and Brigette, both Aust. Stock Horses, which are also ours.

The saddle I use is made by Ian Saunders from Boonah Qld Aust. It is a fender style or half breed as some prefer to call them. Although I am trying to save for a wade roper, just so many other bills get in the way lol.

As for riding style, well I guess it is way more western than english, but I live and work in the Aust. bush that is steep and has many creeks, low branches, dogwood and fallen timber to negotiate so sometimes I guess you could say it is "sit of the pants" style of riding. I simply love it, the tougher the riding the better, Jack is the same. He simply loves his work.

To anyone that is ever anywhere near where we live is more than welcome to come and stay with us and we will take you riding, anyone that loves horses and has the right attitude towards them is always welcome in our home. We can go from gentle riding along the creeks to some high country riding, depending on skills and desire, but rest assured you will experience some great Aust scenary and wildlife.

Oh, and Jack's registered name is Boonderabbi Jack.

Just in case there is any doubt I LOVE my job LOL, and my horses, especially Jack.

cheers
Steve

Steve the reason I asked about your saddle & how long Jack had been started is that I noted jack has an exceptionally well shaped back. Meaning prefectly fitting saddle & quality riding dynamics.

You will note we have many threads devoted to saddle fit & type, horse biomechanics & rider dynamics.

So when I spot a horse that still has a good back I need to know all about it!    A photo of that saddle (& it in use too) would please me greatly & no doubt many others here also.

I was a jillaroo for many years in Qld & parts of NSW & NT so I too am no stranger to hard riding & work. I don't have access to cattle anymore. Since I've had Sonny I've done team penning, cutting & campdrafting in a few clubs, lastly was in Gympie club but the cost got too much during the recent drought. As a jillaroo I did quite a bit of campdrafting on the station horses but mostly the stockmen would steal any good horse I had for their own strings
