Pictures.com an interesting site on Facebook

Just type in Horses for sale, or farm animals, etc.  I noticed that that site was looking specifically at Dolly?

This picture specifically:

and this one:

I tried to find where they were looking at her and see if someone has posted her for sale?  I alerted NetPosse about the the site.  Michelle Gordon was shocked to see it as she saw some of our stolen horses from our NetPosse pictures there.

It is hard to find the location of this site, but it has something to do with photobucket.com.  It looks very much like spokeo.com when you go there.

Anyone got any ideas on how to figure out this site location?

There should be a contact us button or link somewhere.

It could be that the site hasn't been updated since you got Dolly.  That happens a lot.  Somewhere there is a site with my friend's Parelli Clinics that she ran over 2 years ago.   She still gets calls with people interested in those clinics.

I showed this to Debi, Michelle and Angela and they are seeing some horses that are familiar.  Michelle was up till late last night going through the photos.

One looks like Whisper to me, the lady who does PNH.  When I click on it, it message I got was:  "This horse is not for sale."

If anyone has an idea of how to get to the site, I sure would appreciate a tidbit of computer help.  I am at a loss and we are few as you can tell my me naming names.

We are trying to get a link so we can get some victims a site to look at...other than just picture.com

How are they getting on this site?

I'd so like someone techno-smart to give me a bit of advice on how to find this site and how people are posting there? Thanks.

Well, after some digging, I decided to go to FB and do a search... there they are on FB.  A private group of 23 people who look at you photobucket pics and pick out one or two to discuss for the week. Then, move on.  But, I was a bit alarmed it was either the new horse or my avatar they were discussing.  Either, I finally found them.  Feeling better.  Probably think I need some glasses!  Blurry pics, facing the sun, see her shadow!  LOL!

Okay, I am learning lots since this picture thing and you may or may not being interested.  But I am and am willing to share some advice.

Photobucket.com suggest that if you want to share pics, make them password protected.  As does NetPosse.com or Stolen Horse International.

Techie suggest to me that the Facebook group should be stayed away from as they could be a scam.  Even, clicking on their link is not a good idea.

It was suggested to copyright your photos of your horses, etc.  I am looking into that information right now.

For example, if I googled :

http://www.google.com/images?um=1...aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai

I might find my visit to Montana and avatar there.  Also, some pretty not so nice photos that you might not want to see.  Yuck!

Unfortunately like I said earlier the internet is one big giant public mess, unless your images are password protected they can be accessed but any number of things.

Here is a quick example: http://www.google.com/images?um=1...qi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

From my techie, personally:

This is a standard google image search page, I typed in Montana missing horse (i dont know if any of the pictures are of your horse or not) you can see 3 or 4 images on this page taken straight out of Netposse.com (Christmas Fire, Odie, Saddle stolen etc ...) its just the way the internet works.

Once you put an image on a webpage, in a link, or on a forum that image becomes public domain ... one thing you could try is to put a watermark on your images i.e. (c) Copyright (name) or some other line of text so it is clear to anyone viewing the pictures that they are yours.

Its one piece of the internet I don't like, everyone thinks because it is on the internet and they can access it that any file is legal and can be taken to be done with how they please!!!!

Thanks.

Latest from my techie about your photos if it is a concern for you:

Some image programs let you actually embed copyright information into the image itself, this is information that can not be changed. However there are some sneaky ways around it.

Some people prefer to embed a logo or image into the picture with a transparent effect just enough so that you can see it but not enough that it ruins the picture.

Some people prefer to write onto the image itself.

Some services (not sure if photobucket does this) allow you to place a flash object into your website and the flash object shows the image, because the image is then never downloaded onto your computer and can not be accessed like an image in a browser it prevents someone from stealing it to put on another site.

This is a website I created as a newspaper for my local town, the two plan images (forgive the quality they are photos of a piece of paper) use this flash technique, as you can see you can not right click on the image to save it to your computer, about the only thing someone could do to steal it is Screencapture the image but the quality will not be as good.

For these images I use a service called myphotoalbum, they have a free version and a paid version and I use the paid version so I can not comment on whether this works the same in the free version.

They have a number of ways to embed images in other sites and I believe it might suit you better.

I think it is good information on copyrighting your photos should you want to go that route.

Okay.  I think enough on that subject.
