PinwormI have a friends horse who has pinworm (UK). They have been tryig to get rid of it formonths now and do not seem able to do so.
Has anyone any different ideas from maybe different countries on how to deal with the problem?

Ask the vet???? Or a better vet? Leah had us triple dosing with wormer for them, and I did try that. Let us know what she does, if it works.

The only way I know to get rid of it is to worm the horse with different chemicals until one works.
How do you know it's pin worm? Lesions on the skin?
When I read this thread it reminded me of what might work for me right now.
Jude has been scratching herself raw for almost 3mths now & nothing to date has worked. I have tried all the home remedies & was almost to the point of getting her a cortizone injection from the vet.
She has never been itchy a day in her life before, but just broke out. I thought it might have been the sunflower seed so I took her off that but I didn't notice any improvement. Then the rains started & now there's rain scold & biting insects to content with also so she continues to scratch.
So after reasding this thread I went straight out & wormed her with Strategy which is the brand name in Australia for the alternative chemical to ivermectin. It contains extra stuff to make it work better & does seem to help in this area.
The other horses are not scratching more than just a little which is to be expected under the current seasonal conditions.
Here's hoping the strategy works because poor Jude is a sad & sorry lady right now.

It has been going on for months and diagnosd by one of top vets in uk- they have tried all sorts of worming streategys and washes, have recommeneded psyllium husks for some time to tey and clean the guts, even ivermectim in the rectum! I also suggested using DE as this should help, but she has not tried it yet!

Supposedly Eraquell is effective against pinworm.
