Purity of Gait

I think it's important to define what purity is.   There are many different things that define a correct gait, footfall sequence, timing, tracking, speed, suspension, height, distance, animation.   Others??

There are SOOOOO many different gaits that horses do, it is important to not focus on any ONE criteria to define 'pure' gait.  It has many meanings to different people and different breeds and disciplines.

Perhaps to discuss correct gait we should break it up into just that, different disciplines.   A canter and a lope are very different.  If you put them together you get a canterlope that is really good with ice cream and strawberries.

While searching for something else, I came across this these studies on gait analysis.   Definitely worth the read.
