Ringworm?

A friends 4 month old foal has a couple of spots that have shown up and been there for about a week now. She thought is was ringworm but has been treating it everyday and it is not going away. The vet is supposed to come out soon to biopsy it... What do you guys think? How long does it take to go away if it is ringworm?

This is her leg after she scrubed it and cleaned it.

The one on her face.

She just moved her horses a week ago from a boarding facility and said that cats and dogs would go into the pens with the horses...

Does not look like ring worm, more like a rub - has she got mites irritating, causing her to itch?

When my horses get ringworm it starts as a crusty scab under the hair, this can be picked off, taking the hair with it leaving a sore underneath.  If I treat it straight away with athletes foot cream or human thrush cream (caneston in the UK) it goes in days and doesn't spread.  If you treat it with some cream while you are waiting for the vet and it doesn't start to look less angry then I would rule out ringworm.  Some of the ringworm sores mine had looked similar to your pics, I never got the rings in the sores you typically see in pictures, but the tell tale sign for me is the crusty lumps as it is first starting.

Well they looked crusty at first then she cleaned them up and pulled the crusty stuff off. Maybe thats why it looks like a rub?

Sounds like it could be ringworm then - if it was me I'd try the caneston - good luck - it spreads like crazy so the one on the face would spread around the areas a bridle or head collar would be touching

My QH had ringworm this winter - must have leaned over the pen to nuzzle with one of the calves that had it.  This is what it looked like.

I treated it with just Athlete's Foot Cream (wear rubber gloves) and it took about 1.5 weeks before I noticed hair starting to grow back.

There's a note in the latest Equus that you can use tea tree oil to treat ringworm.

Tinactin. I wouldn't be scrubbing it though. Just put the cream on and let it heal.
