sinus blocked and soreHi, need some advice as what to do.
My 6 y.o. Irish Sports horse has had gungy eyes for the last 3 months and I feel its coming from the sinus, it is worse in the morning after a nights rest, he is not stabled but has been getting mainly hay and since last night grass at night, there is no discharge through nose but he is throwing his head up in the paddock when resting, and esp. if wearing the rope halter or the hackamore, any pressure on the sinus irritates him, he is having Chiropractic treatments at the moment and his teeth are looked at every 6 months, I was on a natural worming programme but have recently wormed him with a 5 day course of panacur but no change.
Any suggestions as what to do or try.

Well if he were my horse, he'd be getting a daily dose of colloidal silver . . .

I would have the vet see him. They can clean out the tear duct by running sterile water through from the nose (there is a small hole inside each nostril that is for tear duct drainage. If it is plugged up, they can flush it).
If he has a bad sinus infection you'll need medication for it. Just like us, not 'any' antibiotic works on sinuses.

Listen to these ladies, because I allowed an infection to get so bad, my horse Jesse had to have surgery. A tooth got infected, infection in the sinuses...10 month ordeal that cost a lot with the vet school and I was doing most of the care at home. He developed corneal ulcers in both eyes after the surgery.
So stop the sinus infection, before it gets nasty.
So stop the sinus infection before it gets nasty. I repeat that....
because it is either expensive or you have to make a choice....
I was lucky we could do it at the time. We could and would not do it again.
I had to give meds every 3 hours around the clock...so jump on it.

I have had a horse I was caring for sinus' flushed. I also started soaking his hay. I think it was the dust that caused it-- because after I got it flushed it came back unless he was on pasture or eating soaked hay. IT isn't a difficult procedure-- do it before it gets worse!

I agree that it could also be a bad tooth. Especially with the head flicking and an abscess would cause lots of pressure.
Hope you get it sorted out soon and your baby is feeling better. That is no fun at all!!!!

Worse cost lots of money or a difficult choice. Like I said, I was fortunate we coul do it at the time. We could not do it now. Jesse has a hole the is permanant between his sinus and his nasal cavity to prevent this again.
But, I lost a lot of sleep and much time due to around the clock medications. In addition, traveling back and forth to the vet school hospital for check-ups or re-addmissions. This horse was a bid deal to me and my husband really came to boot for me.
But, we would not be able to do this now.
So do what you can very early... Early is cheaper!
I have been there.
