slow feed nets for large round bales

Say that three times fast.  I had a tough time typing it!  A friend decided it would be easier and cheaper to order a large quantity of nets, and pass that savings on to our group on fb.  I was able to get two for the price of one.  Just read that a woman's two horses were on one round bale for six weeks.  Holy cow!  My three horses have been going through a large round bale in a week and 1/2.  Lots of hay on the ground that is being used like a cat box.  Nice bedding for winter, I guess.  Picking up a round bale feeder at Tractor Supply tomorrow.  I'll let ya'll know how it goes.  Should be significant savings, which is important with this drought.  Need to stretch this hay as far as I can.

thats interesting, do you have a  manufactures name or any photographs/links to these nets?
sounds like it would really prevent waste and stop the 'gorging'

I thought Erin was going to try old tennis nets to wrap her hay bale in.  I wonder how that went.

The one with the larger holes simply prevents waste.  The one with the smaller holes slows their eating by quite a bit.  If you order 10 bales, you are considered a dealer and you can pass that savings on to your friends.  My very cheap neighbor has bought two of them, so you know they not only work, they save a lot of hay!

I've been using the Cinch Chix net for three years.  Excellent product.  Let me see if I can post a picture of my guys eating from it.

thanks for the link and the photos, they look great though they are a bit pricey. I am sure they would pay for themselves over time.

are there any reports of horses getting shoes caught in them? my pony doesn't have shoes so it wouldn't be a problem for her.

Will have mine in a bale feeder, so not concerned about feet, although mine are all bf.  (I love saying that!)  I have fed three large round bales in 5 weeks.  With a net, I would still be on number one.  Considering these bales go for 130.00 per bale, I would have already paid for one net.  They are SO worth it.

Gracious!  I think I'm paying more than $250 for a round bale.  The net pays for itself after the second bale, I think!

The general wisdom is that the horse needs to be barefoot or the net needs to be in some sort of a ring.  My guys are barefoot (and the donkey's a mini); and they climb all over it without incident.

Hi there Bit,

Have you had enough folks to respond to get a discount ? If so how much would a net be per person ? I bought from here before http://www.texashaynet.com/retail-customers.html but it needs replacing. It saves alot of waste and money. There's are 187.00 + 27.00 shipping

Thanks !

I think we were able to get them for about 1/2 price.  If you are interested, you might call the company and let them know you want to become a dealer.  The woman that did this belongs to a horsey fb group that has quite a few folks on it that live fairly close.  Kansas City area, so it was easy for her to get enough people to buy the nets.  Shoot, I bought two, even though I only feed one bale at a time.  For that price, I figured when I needed to finally replace the net, I'd have an extra.  Or I could throw on the extra while I did any repairs needed to the original.  Shipping them to me added a bit to the cost, but still cheaper than fuel to drive to KC.  I'll be using a round bale feeder with it, just to make sure no one gets caught up in the net for any reason.  My mares would probably climb on it and pee on it!

We love our chinch chix round bale hay net. We also have the round bale in a feeder. This is our second year with it and it does help stretch the hay out, taking  my 3 big horses a week to eat a bale. They are small 4 ft bales, loosely wrapped with one string around them.
