something else to think about!I was playig today- having a look at how my horse carries himself when I use different equipment and taing pics to look at later. Changing from lunge to 22ft line - I kept the same size circle all through - i noticed a major difference. With the 22ft line the horse was carrying his head differently - slightly twisted in and I realised he is actually compensating for the weight of the line. I changed the line for a light lunge line and he carried his head straight.
made me think - i know the lines are meant to have feel but if you can move your horse backwards by a tail hair, then moving away from such a heavy line at some point must be worth considering for som of the time?

Maybe there's a reason they've used those lightweight lines all these years . . . . .

You can see why thy are needed, but I tried with a lightweight lunge rein and my horse was just as responsive but carrid his head much easier. Will someone else go try it?

actually Julie, I did last week. I usually exercise horses at Liberty in my round coral/arena. I took it apart last week to get hay in, so I had to lunge the horses to exercise them. I started with the 22 and didn't like the weight on Zar's head, so I got out my old lunge line and lunged her....much NICER and easier on her. I imagine those knots hurt the nose with all that weight on it after a while.

Did you find that they twisted their hads slightly and had to drop their nck to hold the weight of the rope. i was amazed - thats a lot of weight!
i also found th 12ft line suddenly felt very short!

I have totally switched from a snap on 12 foot to a rope that ties on because of the weight. Booth me and the horses like that better-- I have not tried a lunge line, but I have been seriously thinking of getting a lunging halter with the clip in the front instead of under the chin of the horse-- but I couldn' put into words why-- other than that is what PK uses. I still like a 45' sometimes and I think they are lighter, but they have less give. I think KR on her DVD uses a thiner rope for a line to use-- that is something to consider also. This is sort of interesting, I wonder if those knots are bothersome?? I wonder if those flat nose rope halters are better, I have also stopped using my Parelli halters, I found a lighter and softer version that Double Diamond makes that I like better.

Also imagine long reining with two of those lines attached to the halter.
I have a Micklem bridle which I use for lunging - if you can find them they are seriously worth a look as they have the ring on the nose. sometimes you want an inside rein contact on the bit, but a lot of the time I use the ring on the nose now as it seems to help the balance.
We need a line like the savvy string weight!

I took ALL the heavy parelli swivel snaps off from my lines and attached them directly to the rope halters... we now can "feel" one another and All my horses respond so much better in their bodies as well as their emotions. For me, it's nice to have them connect to me with a smile in their eyes I can feel them and they can feel me without having to use so much dang pressure from the heavy snaps. We are floating around now.... hehehe

I recently picked up a 22 foot mecate rope that is nylon and lighter in weight than the yachting braid. It ties on like a lead rope, and I am liking that set up better.
I agree that thinner and lighter is better.
