Spanky's hoof changes in 4 mos.Spanky's hoof changes in 4 months.
Open to comments...
He is sound on all terrain (hand walking on the gravel driveway even) he is only 2 yrs old so not started under saddle yet.
He still has some flaring on the RF so that roll is still a bit larger than the others.

Thanks for posting! Your trim photos are always so pretty...I'm thinking I might start hosing my guys feet before pictures.

Thanks for the compliments!
I hose them so I can see better and to keep my tools sharper. It also helps to soften everything so my job is a bit easier.
I like how his hair line has changed and his cartilages in the back of his hoof have built up.

The angle on the heel growth looks much better too. Keep up the good work .

Those feet have made some great changes. It does appear to me though, that I am seeing quite a few hoof knife marks in the soles. These feet are way beyond needing the soles done. Let the soles self trim and calous/slough what they need. This should be a rasp-the-hoofwall/heel-only horse. If the feet latten a little, so what?!?! Do not sacrifice soundness for the appearance of concavity. If those are not knife marks but natural wear marks, then i apologize.
Otherwise, that horse should have a twinkle in his eye and smile on his chops.

Thanks!
I didn't exfoliate his sole at all on the last trim and there was quite a bit of dead material in there he didn't need. He lives on soft ground, packed dirt and grass, and it makes it hard for the sole to callous with all the dead stuff in there. It doesn't naturally exfoliate very well in our dry months and needed some help on this trim. He was getting the little lumps and bumps of dead material next to his frog and it was holding in the yucky causing more problems than just dead sole.
He callouses up very nicely in the winter (nice shiny smooth concave callous) like the before pics because his feet are wet most the time so it's easier for the dead sole to fall out.
Those are rasp marks you see , I broke one of my rasps so the end is sharp and I can rasp out the dead sole. It's easier than a knife for me. But I use both.
He has a big twinkle in his eye and bounces like a pogo stick in one spot!
