Sunk to new lows!!

I always knew big lick was disgusting, but the gaits displayed in these two videos are absolutely grotesque. I can't believe it.

You are right , Erin.  And I have friends who do show in that world and yet, trail ride in my world.  I don't argue with them as the govt. is at their shows all the time and they get pulled for dust on the horse's leg.  So if that gets the stacks off, I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Once, I was invited to show with them.  I took Flint dirty out of the pasture and entered him in three events.  The govt. was there and I never changed my clothes or his tack for any event.  I was nervous because he had a broken leg from when he was 2 years old and he played with a tractor in the field and well, let's just say the tractor does not stay in the pasture anymore.

After a year, he healed.  But, I was afraid the govt. would see his cannon bone and I'd get a probation violation.  He had no shoes on, etc.  That fellow just looked at me and smiled every time and said , "You have fun out there."  He knew I could care less about being there.

We did the beer event where your horse gaits and the one who has the most beer left wins.  It was so stupid!  No one was gaiting but Flint so naturally, we were losing the beer.  I poured it out and we passed everyone.  The judge kept saying ,"Y'all must go at a gait!"  I decided to just dump the beer and gait and the crowd went crazy over Flint.

The others were just tip toeing barely walking.

Probably if I had not dumped my beer, They would have given me the first place due to the fact I allowed Flint to move on out.

We went home happy.  He did get a ribbon.  4th place in a class of four horses...mine you not bathed and he was sporting a mohawk because I was letting some mane grow out.  Perhaps, I should get that picture and share it with the site.

He was my winner!

This is why I support FOSH (Friends of Sound Horses).  It was started by TWH people who wanted to keep their horses natural.   A friend rescued a TWH, she had chemical burns under the front pasterns and scars on her legs from chains.  She called the previous owner and asked why the horse paced instead of gaited.  She was told to put weights back on her feet.

The USHS has shut down the national TWH show when they showed up with police officers.   They didn't really shut it down..when they started doing inspections, everyone left!

You will find a certain amount of cruelty I think in every competition with horses, some are much worse then others.  When confronted they ALL point at the TWH show ring and say "at least we don't do THAT!"

It is horrible.
becdubie

That made me cry.   I want to pull that idiot off his horse and slap him silly.
I'm sick to my stomach.
CoolsLadyInRed

Oh sweet Lord in heaven...how can people do this??!! It makes me wanna cry to think how much pain those poor horses are in. I know things are done in other breeds and all that...this seems so horrific. Pure torture Grrrrrr..... Let me at those jerks.
PasoBaby_CarolU

Oh yeah, this is not a new low...this has been going on for quite some time.  They test for soring now, so things have actually improved!
Copious_Amour

What is wrong with their hind ends? It looks like they are squatting
ErinR76

I have heard of soring to make them lift their feet higher, but I've NEVER seen that weird squatting (it IS like a German Shepherd with hip displasia!) before!!! It is so bizarre and unnatural I can't believe it's 'desireable.'
thelmanelle

Actually, before I knew what it was...I was asked if I would ride one and show for some people?  I did ride it , but i felt so weird like sliding off the rear end.  I told them I could not be comfortable doing that and that was the end of our relationship.

Yes, they get probation for 5-10 years if they get caught.

I hang with the trail riders and field trial folks because it's no show.

Yeah and if that wasn't enough the young one (first video) is being working in a full blinding hood.   I hope there is an extra hot corner in hell for these kind of people.
mollyk

That is so sickening. The pain those poor horses must be in    I can't begin to understand the mindset of those kind of people.
kristie

I didn't watch the video because I see enough of that crap around here (I live in Tennessee).

It's an embarrassment to my region, and I view the people that do that to their horses as backwoods ignorant.
thelmanelle

Kristie,
If this was FB, I'd put a like on that statement.  Where I stand, I have to know that the field trial folks do to do this and try to hope for the less of the stacks or ending of them.

But, I keep my mouth shut so I can be an influence, without judging...hoping friends will drop out and they are.

So all is not lost.
Pedestal*Pony

That made me sick to my stomach!  GRRRRR!
ErinR76

thelmanelle, How are you an influence? I would rather subtly influence individual people that are doing this than to attack them and totally shut their ears. I wonder how you do it effectively?
PasoBaby_CarolU

I'm an influence too...but not too subtle about it.  When people ask why I don't show in pointed shows I tell them I love my horses and won't do to my horse what it takes to win.     That usually pisses people off, and tells them not too subtly that what they are doing is cruel.

They don't do what is done in this video in my breed, but there are rules against soring, open wounds, abusive tack, etc...for a reason.  You see a lot of Spanish horses (all breeds) with scars over their noses.
ErinR76

Once again I am reminded of what one author's definition of real love is. It's caring about someone else; NOT the feeling of pleasure you get from a feeling someone ELSE gives YOU. "I care about your happiness" versus "I like how you make me feel." Good for you Carol.
