Sweet Itch??Two of my mares had some sort of bug infestation on there udders-- really nasty- It seemed like it appeared over night. I washed it off and it looks better-- I put some fly repellent on and it is gone? Is that sweet itch?
I used to think that type of thing was bots?? Because it looks just like what they get on their chest? But it was way worse under there- and completely nasty.

Can you type an actual description or post pics?
sweet itch is caused by culicoides midges and is just an allergy to those bites, causing very itchy skin and possibly secondary infection. doesnt sound like that's what yours has if you see actual (wingless) bugs congregating on the skin....

I washed it off and it is gone for now. But It looks like Bot flies to me-- IT think that is what it is--I just had never seen it in the "private parts" of the mares like that before. Will post if it comes back.
